Jeep has issued an official recall for a limited number of 2026 Wrangler and Gladiator models after identifying a potential defect involving steel wheels. The recall covers 641 vehicles built during a one-week period in November 2025, with the issue posing a risk that could lead to wheel cracking and separation.
Recall Covers 641 Jeep Vehicles
The recall applies to 606 Jeep Wrangler models and 35 Jeep Gladiator models produced during the same week in November 2025.
According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were equipped with steel wheels that have walls that are thinner than intended. The wheels are believed to have been installed on vehicles equipped with steel wheels, most likely Sport trims.
Thin Wheel Walls Create a Safety Risk
NHTSA documents state that the thinner wheel walls could crack and potentially separate from the vehicle. The documents also indicate that the failure could occur without warning, creating a safety concern.
The issue was first identified late last year, prompting an investigation involving Jeep engineers and supplier teams. Following the investigation, the company determined that the condition represents a safety defect.
No Reported Incidents So Far
FCA said it has not received any customer complaints, warranty claims, or reports of incidents related to the affected wheels.
The steel wheels involved in the recall were supplied by Maxion Wheels, a U.S.-based supplier.
What Owners Can Expect
Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the steel wheels and valve stem at no cost if necessary.
Dealer notifications are scheduled to begin on July 23, 2026, while owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on September 4. Owners who believe their vehicle may be included will be able to verify eligibility by checking their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) once the lookup tool becomes available.
