The next-generation BMW 3 Series is set to make its world debut on September 30, 2026, following months of teasers, previews and spy shots. Internally known as the G50, the redesigned sedan will arrive six months after its battery-powered counterpart, the i3, made its world premiere.
The debut marks an important moment for BMW and the 3 Series, with the new model expected to introduce major design and technology changes. A G51 Touring wagon is also planned to join the lineup later.
What We Know About the BMW 3 Series G50
The G50 3 Series will adopt Neue Klasse philosophies both inside and out while riding on a heavily evolved version of the CLAR chassis, similar to the all-new X5. The approach represents a half-step toward the full Neue Klasse platform.
BMW is also expected to use more recyclable materials and more sustainable assembly methods in the new 3 Series.
Recent spy shots have revealed a significantly redesigned rear end. The shape is similar to the i3, but the proportions are different, with a higher tail, slim taillights and relatively clean flanks.
Spy shots have also shown pop-out door handles, although those will not be allowed in China. The familiar Hoffmeister kink, meanwhile, remains part of the design.
BMW 3 Series G50 Interior
Inside, the G50 is expected to share similarities with the i3 as BMW continues its move toward the Panoramic Vision layout. The traditional dashboard has been replaced, and the familiar iDrive scroll wheel will not be present.
BMW 3 Series G50 Powertrain
The only confirmed powertrain so far comes in the M350. It uses the familiar B58 engine, a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder producing 443 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.
Those figures make the M350 more powerful than the E90/E92 M3 from about 20 years ago, which produced 414 hp and 295 lb-ft. The M350 will also feature all-wheel drive, but for the first time, it will have a dedicated rear-wheel-drive mode.
Other engine options are expected to include turbocharged four-cylinder engines and diesels, along with a plug-in hybrid. At the very least, all of them will feature mild-hybrid assistance.
Familiar badges are also expected to remain, including the 318, 320 and 330. According to BMWBlog, the G50 will be the first 3 Series generation not offered with a manual transmission across the lineup.
The last manual was offered in Europe for the pre-LCI, or pre-facelift, 318d. That leaves the pure-combustion M3 as the last hope for enthusiasts seeking a three-pedal 3 Series-shaped car with a clutch.
BMW 3 Series G50 Debut Date
After months of previews and spy shots, BMW has confirmed September 30, 2026, as the reveal date for the next-generation 3 Series. The G50 will introduce a new design direction, updated interior technology and a range of powertrain changes as BMW prepares the latest generation of its 3 Series lineup.
