Subaru has introduced two limited-edition performance models for the U.S. market, marking anniversaries for two of its best-known performance nameplates. The 2027 Subaru WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 debuted during the annual Boxerfest gathering in York, Pennsylvania, with each receiving exclusive styling and performance upgrades.
Subaru WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 Names Explained
The two special editions celebrate 25 years since the WRX arrived in the U.S. and 15 years since the BRZ followed. Their unusual names are tied directly to the chassis codes of the cars that first introduced the respective nameplates to American buyers.
For the WRX GD25, “GD” comes from the original chassis code used in the VINs of the first U.S.-market WRX sedans. The “G” identified the Impreza line, while “D” denoted the second-generation sedan.
The BRZ ZC15 follows the same naming formula. “Z” identifies the BRZ model line, while “C” denotes the first generation.
2027 Subaru WRX GD25 Gets Rally-Inspired Upgrades
The WRX GD25 features a rally-inspired appearance centered around World Rally Blue paint, gold-painted 19-inch wheels and Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. Gold Brembo calipers complete the exterior treatment.
Subaru also fitted the WRX GD25 with a dry carbon-fiber swan-neck rear wing from STI. The wing uses the same design as the one featured on Travis Pastrana’s ARA25L rally car.
Additional hardware includes a flexible strut tower bar and performance-tuned suspension with stiffer springs and revised damping. Inside, the WRX receives Recaro performance seats finished in black Ultrasuede with red stitching, along with an STI shift knob and short throw shifter.
Production of the WRX GD25 will be limited to 350 units.
BRZ ZC15 Takes a Different Approach
The BRZ ZC15 uses an exclusive Ceramic White paint color paired with matte bronze wheels, red Brembo calipers and bronze side-sill decals. The color combination pays homage to the 2020 BRZ tS.
A black decklid spoiler and flexible V-bar provide additional hardware upgrades, while the cabin features red inserts and black leather upholstery.
Subaru will build just 300 examples of the BRZ ZC15.
Both Special Editions Keep Their Standard Powertrains
Neither special edition receives powertrain changes. The WRX GD25 uses a 271-horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine paired with Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
The BRZ ZC15 retains its naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four, producing 228 horsepower and sending power exclusively to the rear wheels.
Both the 2027 Subaru WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15 will be offered exclusively with six-speed manual transmissions, while production is limited to 350 WRX models and 300 BRZ models.
