The Genesis GV90 is set to introduce Hyundai Motor Group’s new eMP platform, bringing stronger structural reinforcement, a 123.5-kWh battery and up to 657 horsepower to the automaker’s flagship EV lineup. The full-size luxury electric SUV is expected to arrive in the U.S. in early 2027.
Genesis GV90 Debuts Hyundai’s New eMP Platform
The Genesis GV90 arrives with features including independently operable B-pillarless coach doors and the debut of Hyundai Motor Group’s eMP platform. The architecture is designed for Genesis flagship models.
Hyundai’s mainstream electric vehicles, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, use the E-GMP platform. Full details about the new 800-volt eMP architecture have not yet been disclosed, although Korean Car Blog has provided a closer look at its advantages over E-GMP.
Stronger Structure Supports B-Pillarless Doors
The eMP platform uses stronger structural reinforcements that enable the B-pillarless coach doors featured on the GV90 Neolun. Its cabin frame members are about 1.5 times thicker than conventional structures, helping provide crash protection comparable to a conventional B-pillar layout.
The platform also introduces Hyundai Motor Group’s largest EV battery, with a capacity of 123.5 kWh. That exceeds the 99.8-kWh battery used by the E-GMP-based Hyundai Ioniq 9.
The battery is paired with a wireless battery management system designed to reduce physical wiring and improve battery-pack packaging.
Genesis GV90 Produces 657 Horsepower
With its dual-motor setup, the Genesis GV90 can deliver 657 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That makes it the most powerful production EV in Hyundai Motor Group’s lineup, exceeding the Ioniq 5 N, which reaches 641 hp when N Grin Boost is engaged.
The eMP platform also adds dual electronic limited-slip differentials for more precise torque distribution, multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering of up to five degrees.
The report said the status of the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU, remains unknown. Hyundai and Genesis recalled more than 145,000 EVs in the U.S. over an ICCU problem that could result in a loss of drive power.
There is currently no information on whether the ICCU has been redesigned for the eMP platform or simply carried over.
More Flexible Cabin Layout
The new platform also provides greater cabin flexibility. In the Neolun version, the front seats can electronically rotate 180 degrees while the vehicle is parked.
Genesis GV90 Targets Full-Size Luxury EV Rivals
The Genesis GV90 is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in early 2027, where it will compete in the full-size luxury EV segment against the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Lucid Gravity.
While the GV90 establishes new figures for Hyundai Motor Group, some headline specifications trail those of its rivals. The Lucid Gravity GT-S produces 1,070 horsepower, while the Cadillac Escalade IQ has an estimated range of 465 miles.
By comparison, Genesis has an internal range estimate of roughly 310 miles for its flagship EV. The GV90’s B-pillarless design, flexible cabin and eMP-enabled technology will form key parts of the new model’s offering when it arrives in the U.S.
