Subaru of America reported a 13.2 percent year-over-year sales increase for September, with strong demand for its all-wheel-drive lineup helping drive continued momentum. The Forester led the gains by recording its best September sales month on record, while several other models also posted notable results.
Forester Leads Subaru’s September Sales
The Forester was the primary driver of Subaru’s September performance, achieving its best September sales month on record. The model has provided much of the volume supporting the automaker’s portfolio through the 2026 calendar year.
The latest generation of the Forester is attracting buyers seeking updated cabin technology alongside Subaru’s established focus on reliability and safety.
The Crosstrek also continues to provide significant sales volume for the automaker. Together, the Forester and Crosstrek remain central to Subaru’s sales performance.
WRX Sees a Retail Sales Rebound
September’s sales report also pointed to a notable change for the Subaru WRX. After a difficult retail period, the performance sedan is experiencing a significant increase in retail sales.
The renewed demand marks a reversal for the WRX following a challenging 2025 sales cycle, with driving enthusiasts returning to the turbocharged sport sedan in greater numbers.
Outback and Electric Models Add to Growth
Subaru’s traditional models and electric vehicles both contributed to the company’s September performance. The Outback recorded a sales rebound, while the automaker’s electric vehicle segment reached record monthly deliveries.
The results highlight continued demand for the Outback alongside growing adoption of the Solterra EV, giving Subaru contributions from both its established utility lineup and newer electric offerings.
Subaru Maintains Its Core Strategy
The September results reinforce Subaru’s established approach in the competitive American market. Rather than emphasizing changing automotive design trends or luxury-focused styling, the automaker continues to center its lineup on functional design, standard symmetrical all-wheel drive, durable interior materials and an identity built around outdoor adventure.
The 13.2 percent year-over-year sales increase comes as Subaru continues integrating electric options while maintaining the internal combustion utility models that form the foundation of its lineup.
With the Forester posting a record September, the WRX experiencing a retail rebound, the Outback recovering and the electric vehicle segment reaching record monthly deliveries, Subaru’s September sales report showed gains across several areas of its portfolio.
