The BMW X3 M50 is set for several updates as the 2027 model approaches, including a significant power increase for its 3.0-liter straight-six and a new Black Package exclusive to the range-topping compact crossover.

BMW X3 M50 Gets a 44-HP Power Boost

Due later this year, the 2027 BMW X3 M50 will retain its 3.0-liter inline-six while gaining 44 horsepower. Output will rise from 393 hp to 437 hp, while torque remains unchanged at 428 lb-ft.

The increase gives the X3 M50 exactly the same power as the M350. The current 2026 X3 M50 already delivers strong performance, but BMW is adding more power without increasing its torque figure.

BMW says the 2027 X3 M50 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds. The 393-hp version completes the same run in 4.6 seconds, while real-world testing has recorded times closer to four seconds flat.

With the additional 44 hp, the updated model could potentially reach 60 mph in the upper three-second range.

No X3 M, but the M50 Remains the Performance Bridge

BMW launched the fourth-generation X3 a couple of years ago, and it remains the brand’s top-selling model worldwide. While its design has divided opinions, its sales have shown that the move toward a bolder appearance has worked.

One model remains absent from the lineup: a true X3 M. BMW has not revealed what it has planned, or whether Alpina will handle such a model, but the X3 M50 has served as a bridge between the standard versions and a full-M model.

The X3 M50’s current 393 hp and 428 lb-ft already provide substantial performance. However, even with its upcoming power increase, the 2027 model remains below the output of the previous X3 M.

The last X3 M produced 473 hp and 457 lb-ft, while the Competition version delivered 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft. The 2027 X3 M50 therefore remains behind both versions in power and torque.

New Black Package Adds Exclusive Styling

The other major update for the X3 M50 is the new Black Package, which will be available exclusively on the model.

The package includes 22-inch wheels, black badges with silver outlines and gloss black brake calipers. Inside, the X3 M50 gets Alcantara/Veganza combination upholstery and carbon-effect trim.

More Updates Across the X3 Range

BMW is also making several updates to the rest of the X3 lineup, at least in Europe. The area in front of the infotainment screen will receive a PVC Softskin surface, while ambient lighting will extend to the door handles and the area around the storage bin.

The 2027 X3 will also receive a new glove box opener and stainless-steel edge guards in the cargo area. BMW says the 2.0-liter engine in the X3 20 is now Euro 7 compliant.

With these changes, the 2027 BMW X3 M50 gains more power and new equipment while the broader X3 lineup receives additional updates ahead of the next model year.
