Nissan Z sales fell 19.3% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2026, but the sports car still sold more units than Alfa Romeo and Fiat combined. Nissan delivered 834 Z models during Q3, compared with 1,033 during the same period in 2025.
Nissan Z Sales Fell Nearly 20%
The latest third-quarter sales reports show Nissan’s retail sales increased 7.8% year-over-year, with much of the company’s growth coming from its trucks and SUVs. The Z, however, moved in the opposite direction.
Nissan sold 834 Z sports cars during the third quarter of 2026, down from 1,033 in Q3 2025. The 199-unit decline represents a 19.3% year-over-year drop.
Despite that decline, the Z’s sales still exceeded the combined total of two Stellantis brands. Fiat sold just 54 vehicles during Q3, while Alfa Romeo recorded 569 sales across the Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale.
Alfa Romeo and Fiat Sales Plunge
Stellantis as a whole maintained roughly the same sales volume as last year, but Fiat and Alfa Romeo experienced significant declines.
Fiat sales fell 83%, with 54 vehicles sold during Q3 compared with 321 in the same period of 2025. Alfa Romeo sold 569 vehicles across its Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale models, down from 1,614 units a year earlier.
That represents a 65% decline for Alfa Romeo. Combined, Alfa Romeo and Fiat sold 623 vehicles during the third quarter, 211 fewer than Nissan’s 834 Z sales.
Year-to-date, Alfa Romeo sales are down 52%, while Fiat is down 76%.
Alfa Romeo Looks to the 2026 Paris Motor Show
Some help could be coming for Alfa Romeo. The automaker is expected to have notable debuts at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, which is scheduled for mid-October.
Among the possibilities are new special-edition trims for the Giulia and Stelvio. Alfa Romeo will also present a new concept called Cuorerosso, with the company hoping to generate excitement around the Italian brand.
Nissan’s Other Sales Leaders
Nissan’s latest quarterly report also highlighted strong performances from the Rogue, Frontier, and Armada. The Armada recorded the company’s largest year-over-year percentage increase, rising 43.2%.
Frontier sales increased 39.6% year-to-date, and the nameplate remains the fastest-growing pickup truck in the U.S. Nissan also sold three “new” Titan full-size pickup trucks, despite the truck being canceled in 2024.
Nissan’s luxury division Infiniti also posted gains. Total Infiniti sales increased 20.4% year-over-year and 5.8% year-to-date.
The Leaf delivered a much weaker result, falling 12.4% compared with Q3 2025 and 50.1% year-to-date. Nissan sold 634 Leaf models during the quarter, putting it relatively close to the discontinued Versa, which still recorded 499 sales in Q3.
Other Niche Models Outsold Alfa Romeo and Fiat
The combined 623 vehicles sold by Alfa Romeo and Fiat were also surpassed by several niche models during the third quarter or September alone.
Cadillac ended CT4 production in July 2026, yet dealers still sold 793 units during Q3. GMC’s Hummer EV, offered as an SUV or truck, recorded 1,423 sales during the quarter.
Sports cars also exceeded the combined Alfa Romeo and Fiat total. Subaru sold 682 BRZ models, while Toyota moved 1,605 GR86 units during Q3.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata performed even better than those models in September alone, with Mazda selling 689 units during the month.
While Nissan Z sales declined by nearly one-fifth from a year earlier, the sports car’s 834-unit third-quarter total remained higher than the combined 623 vehicles sold by Alfa Romeo and Fiat.
