Mazda CX SUVs are receiving a series of updates in Europe as the Japanese automaker prepares more extensive changes to its larger SUV lineup. The refreshed CX-60 and CX-80 models bring improvements to ride comfort, cabin noise, exterior styling and parking assistance, while the more significant upgrades Mazda has promised may not arrive until 2028.
The updates come as Mazda looks to address sluggish U.S. sales and reconsider its strategy for larger SUVs. Although the company has announced what its CEO described as “unprecedented” changes, recent reports suggest the automaker will introduce smaller improvements before rolling out its more substantial revisions.
European Mazda CX-60 and CX-80 Models Receive Updates
According to a report by Japanese publication Creative Trend, Mazda has introduced refreshed versions of the CX-60 and CX-80 in Europe while it continues working on broader changes to its large SUV lineup.
The exterior updates include dark chrome finishes for logos, emblems and other details. The CX-80 also receives black roof rails, while both models gain new exterior color options.
Inside, a tan interior option is now available for three-row, seven-seat variants. These changes add new styling choices to the European models ahead of the more extensive revisions expected for Mazda’s larger SUVs.
Ride Comfort, Cabin Noise and Parking Technology Improve
Beyond the visual changes, Mazda has made adjustments intended to improve the driving experience in the CX-60 and CX-80. Revised rear suspension crossmember bushings are designed to improve ride comfort.
The automaker has also added sound-suppression materials to the engine compartment and interior to reduce noise levels. These changes address comfort inside the cabin without requiring the major redesign Mazda has outlined for its larger SUV family.
European models will also receive the Active Parking Control Feature. The system will allow the vehicles to identify parking spaces and park themselves in both perpendicular and parallel parking situations.
Mazda’s Major CX SUV Changes May Arrive in 2028
The latest European updates suggest that Mazda’s more substantial SUV revisions will take additional time. Smaller improvements are expected to arrive sometime in 2027, ahead of the larger changes anticipated in 2028.
In a recent interview with Chugoku Shimbun, Mazda provided further insight into the “unprecedented” changes announced about a month earlier. The company said it is planning significant revisions to the exterior, interior and powertrain of its major CX SUVs.
While the automaker has not detailed every change, the powertrain plans stand out as a potentially significant part of the overhaul. Mazda’s larger CX models will likely eventually adopt the new SKYACTIV-Z hybrid powertrain, which remains under development.
Next-Generation Mazda CX-5 Expected to Debut in Late 2027
The next-generation Mazda CX-5 is scheduled to be the first model to receive the new SKYACTIV-Z engine. Its debut is planned for late 2027, providing a clearer indication of the timeline for the automaker’s powertrain development.
That schedule also supports expectations that the larger CX SUV lineup will receive its more extensive updates sometime in 2028, following the smaller improvements planned for 2027.
For now, European CX-60 and CX-80 buyers are getting revised styling, improved ride comfort, reduced cabin noise and new parking technology, while Mazda continues developing the broader exterior, interior and powertrain changes planned for its larger SUVs.
