Porsche is looking to its iconic 911 lineup to help reverse a difficult sales performance in 2026, after global deliveries fell 16% during the first nine months of the year. The German automaker is planning more exclusive, high-performance 911 models as part of a broader strategy that also includes cost reductions, organizational changes and new vehicles.

Porsche Reports a 16% Decline in Global Sales

Porsche delivered 178,532 new cars during the first nine months of 2026, down from 212,609 over the same period last year. The automaker attributed much of the decline to a sudden collapse in demand in China, alongside changing regulations and evolving market trends.

To address the challenges, Porsche is pursuing several product and business initiatives. These include developing the special Mission S concept and transitioning the next-generation 718 Cayman and Boxster from internal combustion engines to electric power.

Another key part of the strategy is expanding the 911 lineup with additional models, giving the brand more exclusive offerings as it works to improve its financial performance.

Porsche Plans More Exclusive 911 Models

Under its “Strategy Sportwagenschmiede ’35,” Porsche has identified the introduction of more special-edition 911 models as part of its plans. The automaker has not specified which versions are in development, but the aging 992 generation could receive additional high-performance and limited-edition variants.

One possibility is the return of the ultimate 911 in the form of the GT2 RS. Speculation surrounding the model suggests that Porsche could be preparing it as a final major performance offering for the current generation, potentially signaling that the 992 is approaching the end of its life cycle.

Whether the GT2 RS becomes the 992 generation’s swan song remains uncertain. However, reports suggest that the highly anticipated model could arrive as early as 2027.

Could the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Deliver More Than 750 HP?

According to a report by Motor1, the next GT2 RS could make its debut sometime in 2027. Given its position at the top of the 911 range, the model could incorporate advanced features and performance technologies from other versions, including electrification assistance from the GTS and Turbo S.

A separate report from Autocar claims that the GT2 RS’s gasoline engine alone was rated at 1,000 horsepower. A more realistic expectation, however, is that the production model could deliver more than 750 hp, with the Turbo S already producing over 700 hp.

These figures remain part of reported expectations rather than confirmed production specifications. Porsche has not identified the specific 911 models it plans to introduce under its new strategy.

More GT Derivatives and Limited Special Editions

The GT2 RS is not the only new 911 variant expected to emerge from Porsche’s plans. The company has also outlined a broader push to introduce what it describes as “unique GT derivatives and limited special editions.”

The approach points to a wider selection of exclusive and high-performance 911 models before Porsche eventually ends production of the 992 generation. Although the automaker has not provided a detailed launch schedule, the strategy places the 911 at the center of its product expansion efforts.

Porsche Plans Job Cuts and Lower Operating Costs

Beyond expanding the 911 lineup, Porsche is planning a comprehensive restructuring aimed at restoring profitability. One major element is a plan to cut 9,000 jobs by 2035, alongside a 40% reduction in corporate management positions.

The automaker also intends to lower its annual break-even point to just 200,000 vehicles. Reducing research and development spending by 20% is another part of the plan, with Porsche aiming to increase platform and technology sharing with its sister brand, Audi.

New SUV and Flagship Supercar Also Planned

Porsche’s future product plans extend beyond the 911 and its special editions. The company is also planning a new D-segment SUV and a flagship supercar or hypercar positioned above the 911.

Together, the planned models and restructuring measures form part of Porsche’s broader effort to respond to falling sales and return to profitability. More special-edition 911s, a new SUV and a potential flagship performance car are among the products expected to play a role in that strategy.
