Jaguar’s electric reinvention is attracting attention beyond its traditional customer base, with more than 50,000 people worldwide expressing interest in the British automaker’s electric future. Around 80% of those registered are new to the brand, according to managing director Rawdon Glover in an interview with Drive. However, the registrations represent people who want updates on Jaguar’s plans, not customers who have placed orders.
Jaguar Type 01 Targets a New Luxury EV Audience
The centerpiece of Jaguar’s relaunch is the Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer unveiled in New York on October 6. Following the controversial Type 00 concept, the model marks a significant shift from the automaker’s previous lineup.
Jaguar is moving further into the luxury market, targeting buyers willing to pay more for distinctive design, performance and exclusivity. The strategy represents a departure from models such as the XE and XF, which previously offered more accessible price points.
The Type 01 is expected to start at around $130,000 in the United States. Jaguar is betting that a more expensive, all-electric lineup can attract customers who might not previously have considered the brand.
Can Jaguar Turn EV Interest Into Actual Sales?
The early response suggests Jaguar’s new direction is reaching an audience beyond its existing customer base. Still, signing up for updates requires a much smaller commitment than purchasing a vehicle, particularly one that has attracted attention for its unconventional styling and ambitious market positioning.
Converting that interest into sales will be a separate challenge. While the 50,000 registrations indicate substantial curiosity about Jaguar’s electric future, they do not establish how many people intend to buy the Type 01.
Jaguar Type 01: Expected Range, Power and Charging
The Type 01 is expected to deliver more than 1,000 horsepower, a claimed driving range of up to 400 miles and rapid charging capable of adding 200 miles of range in around 13 minutes.
These anticipated specifications form part of Jaguar’s effort to position the electric grand tourer in the luxury market, where the company hopes to attract buyers interested in performance and exclusivity.
Jaguar Orders Expected to Open in 2027
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are scheduled to open in early 2027, with the first deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
Until customers begin placing deposits and taking delivery, the more than 50,000 registrations remain an encouraging sign of interest rather than evidence that Jaguar’s reinvention has translated into sales success. The company’s next challenge will be turning that attention into actual purchases.
