Ford has reached 80 recalls in the U.S. in 2026, maintaining its lead over every other automaker as a new safety issue affects 2,276 F-150 pickups. The latest recall involves potentially unsecured front-seat bolts on certain 2025, 2026 and 2027 model-year trucks, raising concerns about seat stability and occupant protection in a crash. Ford has received 56 related warranty claims and 16 field reports but has reported no known accidents or injuries associated with the problem.
What Is Wrong With the Recalled Ford F-150?
According to a recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some Ford F-150 pickups may have front seat-to-body bolts that were not properly secured during production.
The report warns that improperly secured seats could compromise stability and occupant protection during a collision.
“An improperly secured seat may have degraded seat stability and occupant restraint performance in a crash, which increases the risk of injury,” states the report.
The recall covers 2,276 Ford F-150 trucks from the 2025 through 2027 model years. The affected vehicles were manufactured between August 25, 2025, and September 23, 2026.
Ford first became aware of the issue after reviewing a warranty report describing unsecured front seats in a 2026 F-150. The company has since recorded 56 warranty reports and 16 field reports related to the condition, although it is not aware of any associated crashes or injuries.
Owners may notice physical movement in a front seat or hear noise coming from the seat if the bolts are not properly secured.
What Ford F-150 Owners Should Do Next
Ford plans to begin mailing recall notification letters to affected owners on October 26, 2026. The notification process is scheduled to conclude by October 30, 2026.
Owners of affected trucks will need to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for an inspection. Technicians will verify that the seat bolts have been properly tightened and will retighten or replace them if necessary.
The repair is expected to be relatively straightforward and quick to complete. That differs from several other Ford quality-related recalls, many of which have taken more than five months to address.
Owners of 2025, 2026 or 2027 Ford F-150 pickups can check whether their vehicles are included in the recall by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) into the search tool on the NHTSA website.
Ford owners can also contact the company’s customer service team at 1-866-436-7332 for additional information about the recall.
Ford Has Recorded 80 Recalls in the U.S. in 2026
The F-150 seat-bolt issue adds to Ford’s already high recall total for 2026. With 80 recalls recorded in the U.S., Ford leads all other automakers, while Stellantis ranks second with 39 recalls, fewer than half of Ford’s total.
Powertrain and electrical system problems account for the largest number of Ford’s recalls this year. Backover protection, vehicle structure and visibility are also among the most frequently affected areas.
The most common problem areas across Ford’s 80 recalls are listed below:
- Powertrain: 11 recalls
- Electrical system: 10 recalls
- Backover protection: 9 recalls
- Structure: 7 recalls
- Visibility: 7 recalls
Major Ford Recalls Have Affected Millions of Vehicles
Among Ford’s 11 powertrain-related recalls, the largest involved unexpected downshifts in 2015-2017 F-150 pickups. That recall affected nearly 1.4 million vehicles.
The remedy for that issue was relatively simple, requiring a software update to the powertrain control module. A separate recall involving a rollaway risk affected another 741,195 Ford and Lincoln vehicles and was also linked to powertrain control module software.
These large-scale recalls highlight the range of issues contributing to Ford’s recall total in 2026, from software-related powertrain concerns to the front-seat fastening problem affecting a smaller number of newer F-150 trucks.
Ford Says Recalls Reflect Improved Quality Control
Ford has maintained that its high recall count reflects improvements in quality control and a proactive approach to identifying vehicle problems, rather than a decline in vehicle quality.
The company also received recognition in JD Power’s 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, where Ford was ranked the top-rated mainstream brand.
Despite recording more recalls than any other automaker in the U.S. this year, Ford’s ranking in the study reflects the quality improvements the company says it has been working to achieve. Meanwhile, owners of affected F-150 pickups should check their vehicles’ recall status and arrange an inspection if their trucks are included in the latest campaign.
