BMW is introducing a new public charging incentive for eligible 2027 electric vehicles in the U.S., offering buyers and lessees up to $500 in charging credits along with a discounted membership to the IONNA charging network. The promotion covers models including the all-new iX3, the midsize i5 and the flagship i7 sedan, giving customers additional value as they transition to electric vehicles.
BMW’s 2027 EV Charging Package Explained
The new BMW ChargingNetwork package provides $500 in total public charging credits, divided into two separate portions.
The first $300 can be used across more than 15 major public charging providers, including ChargePoint, EVgo and Shell Recharge. The remaining $200 is reserved exclusively for the IONNA charging network.
BMW is also including a complimentary one-year IONNA membership. During the 12-month trial period, members receive a 25% discount on all charging sessions.
The package is designed to make public charging more convenient while reducing the initial costs associated with owning or leasing an electric BMW.
How BMW Is Simplifying Public EV Charging
The charging promotion arrives as the U.S. continues expanding its electric vehicle charging infrastructure. However, navigating different charging networks and payment applications remains a challenge for new EV owners.
BMW is addressing that issue by integrating the $500 charging credit directly into the My BMW digital wallet. After enrolling through the app, customers can have the credits automatically applied to eligible charging sessions without needing to swipe a physical credit card.
This approach is intended to simplify the public charging experience by bringing multiple charging benefits together within BMW’s digital platform.
2027 BMW EVs Bring 800-Volt Technology and Faster Charging
Beyond the charging incentives, BMW’s 2027 electric vehicle lineup is expected to introduce significant technical developments through the Neue Klasse architecture.
The platform, which underpins vehicles such as the i3 sedan and iX3, uses an advanced 800-volt electrical system capable of charging speeds of up to 400 kW.
BMW has also confirmed that all 2027 electric models will feature a native NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port. This establishes compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network while the vehicles will also include a CCS adapter for use with legacy charging stations.
BMW Charging Credits Expire One Year After Delivery
Customers considering the $500 charging package should pay close attention to its expiration terms. Both the charging credits and the discounted IONNA membership expire exactly one year after the vehicle is sold or leased.
Importantly, the expiration period begins when the customer takes delivery of the vehicle, not when they enroll in the My BMW app.
That means buyers and lessees will need to activate and use their charging benefits within the specified 12-month period to take full advantage of the promotion.
BMW Expands Support for Its 2027 Electric Vehicle Lineup
By offering subsidized public charging during the first year of ownership and equipping its 2027 electric vehicles with native NACS charging ports, BMW is working to address some of the practical challenges associated with EV ownership.
The combination of $500 in charging credits, discounted IONNA membership and new charging technology forms a central part of the automaker’s effort to support customers transitioning to electric mobility.
