The Mazda CX-30 may have several more years before its next major redesign reaches the U.S. The current model debuted for the 2020 model year after appearing at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, and a report indicates Mazda is targeting fiscal year 2030 for a fully redesigned CX-30.

That timeline could push the next-generation model to spring 2031, although Mazda has not provided additional details about the upcoming vehicle.

Next Mazda CX-30 Could Bring Major Changes

According to a report from Chugoku Shimbun, Mazda is aiming to introduce a fully redesigned CX-30 by fiscal year 2030. If that schedule holds, the new model would not be expected before spring 2031.

Details about the next CX-30 remain limited, but the current model offers some indications of what Mazda could change. The next generation is expected to retain a front-wheel-drive platform, while Mazda could give the SUV more interior space than the CX-3, along with a larger cabin, nicer materials, and additional creature comforts.

The powertrain lineup could also change as Mazda continues moving toward electrification. The next CX-30 could receive some of the brand’s latest engines and hybrid technology, although specific powertrains have not been identified.

Refreshed CX-30 Could Arrive Before Redesign

Drivers who do not want to wait until 2031 could see a more immediate update. Mazda has already introduced a substantial refresh for the CX-30 in Japan, and that version could eventually make its way to North America.

The Japanese-market update arrived in July 2026 and introduced the e-SKYACTIV G 2.5 mild-hybrid, revised the lineup, and added more safety and convenience equipment.

Mazda also incorporated technology from the larger CX-60 and CX-80, including sharper blind-spot monitoring, road-sign reading, adaptive headlights, and smarter emergency braking.

What the Japanese Refresh Could Mean for the U.S.

The Japanese-market refresh provides a potential indication of what could happen to the CX-30 in North America before the full redesign arrives. The current American CX-30 already uses a 2.5-liter engine, while Mazda’s latest update demonstrates that the company continues to invest in the current generation.

For shoppers considering a CX-30 now, the choice is between purchasing the current model with its fresh updates or waiting several years for the next-generation version.
