The Tesla Cybercab is entering another stage of development with Starlink integration, adding satellite connectivity to the autonomous vehicle as Tesla continues testing its planned self-driving taxi service on public roads.
Cybercab Testing Continues Across the U.S.
Tesla has been developing and testing the Cybercab for almost two years since the project was unveiled. Test videos have surfaced from states including Texas, California, Nevada, Florida, Georgia and New York, among others.
A recently posted video from TikTok user Lottaherm shows a different version of the Cybercab undergoing testing on public roads.
According to a report by Teslarati, the square panel visible near the center-top of the rear windscreen is an integrated Starlink satellite system. The addition represents a recent development in the Cybercab project.
Starlink Could Bring Entertainment to the Cybercab
Tesla founder Elon Musk announced the Starlink-equipped Cybercab just a week ago at the company’s Gigafactory in Texas.
Musk said the Starlink connection will allow passengers to entertain themselves while traveling, including through live television, movies and video games.
The system is also intended to serve a function beyond entertainment. Tesla Head of AI Ashok Elluswamy said the connectivity will allow the company to maintain constant communication with the Cybercab fleet.
Connectivity Could Help During Emergencies
According to Elluswamy, continuous connectivity could provide riders with support if a Cybercab experiences a breakdown, is involved in an accident or faces a medical emergency.
The addition of Starlink therefore gives the Cybercab another role beyond providing entertainment for passengers, with connectivity also intended to support the autonomous fleet during unexpected situations.
Tesla Targets Public Cybercab Rides in 2026
Tesla is continuing to build Cybercabs at its Gigafactory as development and testing move forward.
Public rides are expected to begin by the end of 2026 if the project proceeds according to plan, marking the next planned step in Tesla’s effort to bring its self-driving taxi concept into public use.
