The 2027 Chevrolet Traverse is having a strong year on the sales front, but its production run could be shorter than usual as Chevrolet reportedly prepares for a refreshed 2028 model.
2027 Traverse Reportedly Labeled a “Limited” Model
The 2027 Traverse recently went on sale with several updates, while U.S. sales increased 25.7% year over year through June 2026. Behind the scenes, however, GM Authority reports that the model could have a shortened production run.
According to GM Authority, citing sources close to the matter, GM reportedly considers the 2027 Traverse a “Limited” model because of its shortened model-year run as the company makes way for the refreshed 2028 Traverse.
No official details have been disclosed about the reported production plan, but the timing could be important for prospective buyers considering the current model.
What Could Change for the 2028 Traverse?
The Chevrolet Traverse competes with the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot. The three-row midsize crossover currently starts at $40,800, excluding destination charges.
The expected 2028 update would coincide with the Traverse nameplate’s 20th anniversary. The refresh could bring changes to the front and rear design, along with revisions inside the cabin.
The 2028 Traverse could also receive an upgraded infotainment system and possible mechanical changes.
Why the 2027 Model Could Be a Tougher Choice
If the 2027 Traverse serves as a brief bridge to the refreshed model, buyers may have little reason to choose it over the 2028 version unless meaningful discounts or incentives are offered.
Those willing to wait could instead receive a model with the expected styling, cabin and infotainment updates.
The current-generation Traverse arrived for the 2024 model year, making 2028 plausible timing for a mid-cycle refresh.
Current Traverse Powertrain
The current Traverse uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter LK0 inline-four producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque.
The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available with either front- or all-wheel drive.
2027 Production Timing Remains Unconfirmed
The reported shortened production run for the 2027 Chevrolet Traverse has not been confirmed. Prospective buyers may want to watch for official announcements or ask a local dealer about the timing, pricing and expected changes for the 2028 model.
The reported timing also aligns with reports that the Buick Enclave could receive a refresh for the MY2028. The Traverse and Enclave share the same platform and engine, although the Enclave is positioned as the more upscale offering.
GMC also offers its own version of the same large three-row GM crossover formula with the Acadia, which leans toward a more rugged, off-road-oriented image.
