The new BMW X7 is undergoing high-speed testing at the Nürburgring as BMW prepares an extensively revised version of its three-row SUV. The gas-powered X7 is expected to receive major luxury upgrades inside and out, along with powertrain options similar to those of the new 7 Series, including a V8 that could produce nearly 600 horsepower.

BMW X7 Expected to Gain More Power and Luxury

The latest development mule follows an earlier look at the 800-horsepower iX7 EV. While the prototype spotted at the Nürburgring does not yet wear the final production bodywork, it offers clues about the heavily revised X7 expected to debut next year.

The new X7 is expected to use the internal chassis code “G67,” signaling the extent of the changes compared with the current G07. Its design is also expected to adopt styling cues from the 7 Series, while the mechanical relationship between the two models is expected to go beyond appearance.

Under the hood, the X7’s powertrain lineup is expected to closely mirror that of the new 7 Series. That could include a V8 producing nearly 600 horsepower, although that figure would remain below the 682 hp offered by the Cadillac Escalade-V.

New Technology and Features Expected

BMW is also expected to give the new X7 a broader range of luxury and technology features. Expected upgrades include automatic doors, heated and ventilated seats across multiple rows, and the Panoramic Vision iDrive system.

A four-spoke steering wheel is also expected, bringing the X7 closer to Neue Klasse vehicles such as the iX3 crossover and i3 sedan.

The X7 could also receive some of the high-end options available on the 7 Series. Spy photographers speculate that BMW may offer a hand-painted two-tone finish, while the 31.3-inch Theater Screen could become an option.

BMW Could Bring the Theater Screen to Its SUV

BMW has previously hinted at bringing the display to SUVs. The move would give passengers in the second and third rows a large screen, particularly suited to family-focused vehicles.

The 31.3-inch display is also appearing in other vehicles, including the VLE from Mercedes and the 21.4-inch display offered in the Chinese-market Volkswagen ID. Era 9X.

For the X7, the Theater Screen could appeal to buyers looking for additional entertainment features, even as the technology remains relatively novel.

BMW X7 Prototype Tested Hard at Nürburgring

The latest Nürburgring sighting comes after spy photographers have already captured near-production-ready X7 prototypes on public roads. The high-speed testing suggests BMW is continuing to refine the SUV’s chassis systems.

The prototype features four exhaust exits, which could indicate that it is the hottest M Performance variant, the M60. That version is expected to receive the V8, with BMW aiming to give the large SUV handling characteristics closer to those of a much smaller and lighter vehicle.

A reveal is expected in 2027, likely followed by the X7 entering the market as a 2028 model.
