Lexus RX Morizo RR spy shots are offering a closer look at the rumored high-performance SUV, revealing wider bodywork, massive brakes, staggered 21-inch tires and an aggressive exhaust setup. The prototype could reportedly use a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with dual electric motors and produce more than 600 horsepower.
Lexus RX Morizo RR Prototype Spotted
At first glance, the Copper Crest SUV looks unmistakably like a Lexus RX. Its steeply raked windshield, low roof and floating roof design on the D-pillar are familiar RX characteristics.
However, several details distinguish this prototype from the RX currently available in dealerships. The vehicle is believed to be a prototype for the long-rumored Lexus RX Morizo RR, a high-performance version that was photographed parked and unattended.
Aggressive Front-End Design Could Hint at the Powertrain
The heaviest camouflage is concentrated around the front of the SUV. The large trapezoidal grille resembles the design used on the Lexus NX, while the corner vents appear similar to those found on the RX F Sport, although they feature a more aggressive appearance.
Additional vents near the lower corners of the grille could also provide a clue about the SUV’s powertrain.
The prototype’s hood could not be inspected, but rumors suggest the Lexus RX Morizo RR may receive a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine combined with dual electric motors. The performance hybrid could produce upwards of 600 horsepower, significantly more than the 366 hp currently offered by the RX 500h F Sport.
Wider Stance, Brembo Brakes and 21-Inch Tires
The additional power appears to be accompanied by a slightly wider body. The difference is subtle, but the wheel arches feature more pronounced flares, which may also explain the camouflage covering those areas.
Large brakes and wide tires are impossible to miss. The prototype uses Brembo calipers and cross-drilled rotors that appear brand new, with plastic wrap still covering the wheels, suggesting the vehicle had only recently been delivered.
The SUV rides on staggered 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires measuring 265/40 at the front and 295/35 at the rear. Like the brakes, the tires also appear to be brand new.
Dual Exhaust Outlets Stand Out at the Rear
At the rear, the prototype otherwise resembles a standard Lexus RX, with two major exceptions. Dual exhaust outlets extend from beneath the fascia on both sides of the vehicle.
The exhaust design does not appear to be finalized for production, with notches cut into the bumper to provide clearance for the pipes. However, the exhaust outlets themselves appear to be genuine components.
Limited Aerodynamic Changes Seen So Far
There are few obvious aerodynamic changes on the prototype at this stage. The flared wheel arches are the most noticeable difference, although a production version could potentially feature a larger roof spoiler or additional aerodynamic elements on the front fascia.
The interior has not been seen either. Aside from trim changes intended to create a sportier atmosphere, there appears to be little reason to expect major differences inside the cabin.
Unlike the LBX Morizo RR, the RX Morizo RR is not expected to feature a manual transmission.
Why the Lexus RX Morizo RR Matters
Lexus has not traditionally had a performance division with the same level of visibility as BMW’s M division or Mercedes-Benz’s AMG. The brand’s F models existed, but they never achieved a significant level of exposure for Lexus.
The original LFA also did not initially turn heads when it was introduced, although time has been particularly kind to the car, which is now regarded as one of the world’s great performance icons.
The rumored RX Morizo RR would take a different approach, combining the SUV format with a potentially powerful hybrid setup. If the reports about more than 600 horsepower are accurate, its output would put it firmly into high-performance territory.
The potential power is only part of the equation. If Lexus also delivers the handling expected from a Morizo model, the RX Morizo RR could appeal to SUV buyers who might otherwise choose a German performance vehicle.
When Could the RX Morizo RR Arrive?
There is currently no confirmed timeframe from the photographers who captured the prototype. However, rumors point to a debut sometime in 2027, likely as a 2028 model.
The rough edges still visible on this prototype are consistent with that estimate, although no official launch timing has been provided.
