The new Polestar 4 SUV gives the brand’s existing electric coupé a more practical body style, adding a straighter roofline, increased cargo capacity and greater versatility while retaining the performance-focused character of the original model. However, while the SUV is set to launch internationally, Polestar has not confirmed whether it will be available in the United States.
A Straighter Roofline and More Usable Rear Space
The Polestar 4 SUV joins the existing 4 electric coupé rather than replacing it. Both models share the same basic architecture, but the SUV receives a redesigned rear section aimed at creating more room and utility.
The most noticeable visual changes are at the rear, where the SUV gets a straighter roofline and a more upright tailgate. Full-length roof rails increase its dynamic roof load capacity to 100 kg.
The additional height is particularly noticeable in the second row, where rear headroom increases by 2.5 centimeters. The SUV also features a large panoramic glass roof extending all the way to the tailgate, with an optional electrochromic version that can be electrically dimmed to reduce glare.
Cargo capacity rises to 530 liters behind the rear seats when measured to the seatbacks, or 655 liters when measured to the inner roof. Folding the 60:40-split rear seatbacks increases luggage capacity to 1,665 liters, while total storage across the front and rear luggage compartments reaches 1,680 liters.
The rear window is another significant change. The original 4 electric coupé uses a camera-based digital rear-view mirror instead of a conventional rear window. The new SUV comes with a conventional rear window and rear-view mirror as standard, although the digital mirror remains available as an option.
Two Electric Powertrains, Including a 544 HP Version
Polestar is offering the SUV with two electric powertrains, both using a 100 kWh battery pack. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive version produces 272 HP and 343 Nm, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration delivers 544 HP and 686 Nm.
The rear-wheel-drive version has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 630 km, while the dual-motor model is rated at up to 600 km. Both versions support DC charging at up to 200 kW and AC charging at up to 22 kW in selected markets.
A Performance Pack is also available for buyers seeking more focused driving hardware. It includes recalibrated active dampers from ZF, Brembo brakes with Swedish gold-colored calipers and 22-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero performance tires.
The New SUV Adds Camping Mode and V2L Capability
The Polestar 4 SUV also gains features designed to suit its more adventure-oriented character, including Camping mode. When parked, the system can maintain a climate-controlled cabin while allowing occupants to access entertainment, lighting and vehicle controls from the front and rear displays.
USB-C ports, a 12V outlet and V2L capability provide additional utility. V2L allows the battery to supply AC power to external equipment at up to 3.3 kW through a separate certified adapter.
The feature can be used to power camping equipment, tools or electronics, although it will not remain exclusive to the SUV. Polestar says V2L is coming to all Polestar 4 vehicles through a future software update.
Google Gemini AI Assistant Also Available
Another feature available in the new Polestar 4 SUV is Google’s newest Gemini AI assistant. The system replaces traditional command-based voice control with more conversational interactions, allowing it to understand context and handle multi-turn requests.
Gemini Live can also assist with tasks including trip planning, brainstorming and real-time translation.
U.S. Availability Remains Unconfirmed
The new Polestar 4 SUV is launching internationally, with production already underway in Busan, South Korea, and first customer deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Polestar, however, has not announced U.S. availability for the new SUV variant.
The distinction is significant as Polestar’s U.S. operations are currently in transition. The company’s U.S. site says existing vehicle inventory will continue to be sold while supplies last, but no new vehicle will be available for sale as model year 2027 and subsequent.
The company says it will continue supporting existing U.S. customers. While the Polestar 4 SUV is a new global addition to the lineup, there is currently no official confirmation that American buyers will receive it.
Prices Start at $67,200
The rear-wheel-drive version of the new Polestar 4 SUV starts at $67,200, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model costs $76,500. The Performance Pack version starts at $88,500 in Germany.
All three figures represent German base prices including VAT and excluding handover fees.
Production began in the second quarter of 2026, with first deliveries expected in the fourth quarter. For Polestar, the SUV expands one of its more distinctive models with significantly greater practicality while maintaining the performance and design focus of the original 4.
