The 2027 Dodge Durango is adding a new exterior color called After Dark, a metallic midnight blue finish that expands personalization options for one of the oldest vehicles still on sale in America.
Often overlooked compared with its platform mate, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Dodge Durango continues to hold its place in the market despite its aging architecture. The Grand Cherokee outsold the Durango in the U.S. through the first part of 2026 by more than two to one, while the Ford Explorer recorded 127,000 first-half deliveries compared with 39,000 Durangos.
After Dark Becomes the Ninth Color for the 2027 Durango
Dodge recently introduced the Redeye finish for the 2027 Dodge Durango and has now added After Dark as another option. The metallic midnight blue is the ninth exterior color available for the SUV, joining Destroyer Grey, Green Machine, Pitch Black and White Knuckle.
Despite its name, After Dark is not an all-black finish. Instead, the color offers a darker, more subdued appearance than the sporty B5Blue also available on the Durango.
The After Dark model is paired with brushed aluminum 10-spoke alloy wheels rather than black rims, giving the package a more sophisticated appearance.
A New Durango Is Still Years Away
The current Durango is among the oldest vehicles on sale in the U.S., having launched in 2011 as the SUV’s third generation and continuing to use underpinnings and mechanical components dating back to the DaimlerChrysler years.
Stellantis has confirmed that an all-new fourth-generation Durango is coming, but the next model will take about three years before rolling out of the Detroit Assembly Complex alongside the Grand Cherokee. That could potentially mean a 2029 launch as a 2030 model.
Until then, Dodge will continue updating and personalizing the current model. The SUV received a major boost when Stellantis reintroduced the Hemi V8 engine lineup one year ago, and the Hemi is now the only engine choice for the 2027 Durango.
2027 Dodge Durango Offers Three Hemi V8 Choices
Buyers choosing the 2027 Dodge Durango can select from three Hemi engine configurations:
- Durango GT: 360 horsepower from a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8.
- Durango R/T 392: 475 horsepower from a 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8.
- Durango SRT Hellcat and Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak: 710 horsepower from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, billed as the most powerful gas SUV ever built.
After Dark Paint Adds $595
The After Dark paint finish is now available to order and adds $595 to the sticker price of the 2027 Dodge Durango.
The new color is designed to give buyers another personalization option, according to Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO.
“Dodge customers don’t blend in – and neither should their vehicles,” McAlear said.
Dodge said the metallic highlights become more visible in direct sunlight, “while the dark base delivers a more aggressive, low-profile appearance after sunset.” The automaker said the deep blue finish is intended to give the Durango a more commanding presence as the color “transforms with changing light conditions.”
With a redesigned fourth-generation model still years away, the new After Dark finish represents another way Dodge is refreshing the long-running Durango while continuing to offer its three Hemi V8 powertrain choices.
