The Mazda MX-5 Miata has long followed a simple formula: keep the sports car light and compact while preserving its fun, approachable handling. Now, British tuning house Rocketeer is giving a previous-generation NC model a major power increase with a specially engineered V6.
The Rocketeer NC Gets a Jaguar V6
The Rocketeer NC V6 is based on the NC-generation MX-5 Miata and uses a heavily modified Jaguar AJ30 3.0-liter V6 engineered and tuned specifically for the platform.
The engine produces 300bhp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Rocketeer says the setup remains true to its philosophy of combining old-school analog driving enjoyment with modern powertrain engineering.
While the Miata’s basic recipe has remained largely unchanged from the first generation to the present, the Rocketeer NC offers additional power for drivers seeking more excitement without abandoning the platform.
Rocketeer Rebuilds the Miata From the Ground Up
The Rocketeer NC is offered as a turnkey product, allowing customers to purchase the car as a finished build with the tuning components already installed.
Rocketeer also rebuilds and re-engineers the car from the ground up, including a bespoke cylinder head design. The build goes beyond the V6’s power output with several newly engineered components.
- Newly designed carbon fiber engine plenum
- New exhaust system
- New throttle body
- New clutch
- New flywheel
The result is a comprehensive conversion rather than simply adding a larger engine to the existing Miata platform.
No Homemade Rocketeer Kits
Rocketeer says the NC V6 is offered as a turnkey product because of the complexity involved in completing the build. The work must be performed by in-house mechanics and engineers in the U.K. or by accredited installers in Germany, the USA, or Australia.
According to the company’s website, the Rocketeer NC costs $33,342 (converted).
