The BMW M5 CS has become one of the standout modern versions of the M5, combining a stiffened and lightened build with more power. Produced for less than a year, just 1,132 examples were made, with Frozen Deep Green becoming the defining color of the limited-production model.
The M5 CS Stands Out Among Modern M5 Models
BMW has produced many notable M5 models over the years, with each generation bringing something different. The E28 was the first, the E34 was a true sleeper, the E39 became a universal favorite, and the E60 was distinguished by its V10.
Among the M5 models produced during the last 15 years, the G90 M5 CS stands out as one of the strongest iterations of the car in the last two decades. BMW stiffened and lightened the model while giving it more power, creating a car that was less like a traditional sport sedan and more like a supercar with four doors.
Frozen Deep Green Became the Signature M5 CS Color
When the M5 CS comes to mind, Frozen Deep Green is likely the color many associate with it. The shade was used in BMW’s press materials as the car’s push color and became closely associated with the model.
BMW produced just 1,132 M5 CS models from March 2021 to January 2022. Its production run was short, ending as the G90 M5 arrived.
Because of the limited production, spotting an M5 CS is rare. Finding one in a color other than Frozen Deep Green is even less common.
More Than Half of M5 CS Models Were Green
According to data compiled by M Data Works, 570 of the 1,132 M5 CS models built were finished in Frozen Deep Green. That represents 50.4% of total production, with most of those cars ending up in the U.S.
Brands Hatch Grey ranked second with 386 cars, representing 25.3% of production. Frozen Brands Hatch Grey followed with 276 cars, or 24.3%.
None of the customers who purchased an M5 CS new selected an Individual custom color, meaning every example was delivered in one of the standard colors.
M5 CS Color Choices Varied by Country
The production numbers become more varied when broken down by country. In some markets, Brands Hatch Grey was the most popular color, while some countries received only one or two M5 CS models finished in Frozen Deep Green.
Japan had only two M5 CS models in Frozen Deep Green, while Spain had just one. As a result, spotting a green M5 CS in either country is particularly uncommon.
M5 CS Buyers Also Chose Track-Focused Options
More than half of M5 CS buyers opted for the track tires, according to the data. Most buyers also selected red brake calipers.
Regardless of the color or equipment combination, the limited production of the BMW M5 CS makes any sighting of one a rare event.
