BMW has confirmed it will no longer participate in the 2026 Paris Motor Show, reversing an earlier commitment to attend the event. The BMW Group said the decision reflects “a shift in priorities,” although it did not provide additional details, leaving one of the world’s oldest auto shows without one of its biggest manufacturers.
BMW Changes Course on Paris Motor Show
Only a few months after confirming its attendance, the Munich-based BMW Group has withdrawn from the 91st edition of the Paris Motor Show. The company’s official statement offered only a brief explanation, citing “a shift in priorities” for the decision.
BMW also said it is not abandoning traditional auto shows altogether. Instead, the company plans to maintain a “selective presence” at future industry events.
Focus Shifts to Other Events
Bloomberg reported that the decision to skip the 2026 Paris Motor Show may be part of a broader cost-cutting initiative led by Milan Nedeljkovic, who replaced Oliver Zipse as CEO a couple of months ago.
According to Italian news agency ANSA, BMW said it intends to “focus on other events.”
Upcoming BMW Debuts Will Take Place Elsewhere
The next-generation BMW 3 Series, built in Dingolfing, remains scheduled to debut later this year, although it will no longer be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
The same is expected to apply to the iX4, which has not yet been officially announced but is expected to make its debut this fall. According to the report, the 3 Series and iX4 are likely to be BMW’s final two major vehicle premieres of 2026 following the launches of the i3, the next-generation X5, and the 7 Series facelift.
Major Automakers Still Set to Attend
While BMW has withdrawn from the event, Mercedes remains on the exhibitor list and could use the show for at least one world premiere, possibly the next-generation GLA. The model is expected to compete with both the BMW X1 and the iX1, while a fully electric version is set to replace the EQA.
Other BMW competitors listed as exhibitors on the Paris Motor Show website include Audi, Alfa Romeo, and Volvo. Additional participating automakers are expected to include Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Honda.
In total, more than 60 automakers are listed for the event, including several Chinese brands such as BYD, Geely, Xpeng, and others.
Paris Motor Show Continues Despite BMW’s Absence
Although traditional auto shows have lost momentum, the Paris Motor Show continues to hold a prominent place in the automotive industry. First held in 1898, the event remains one of the sector’s most prestigious exhibitions.
The 2026 Paris Motor Show is scheduled to run from October 12 through October 18 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center. The event will proceed without BMW and MINI among its exhibitors.
Launch Plans for the 3 Series and iX4 Remain Unconfirmed
BMW has not announced whether the next-generation 3 Series and the iX4 will receive dedicated launch events. However, both vehicles are still expected to debut outside the Paris Motor Show as the company adjusts its event strategy.
The company’s withdrawal changes its presence at one of the industry’s signature exhibitions while leaving its upcoming vehicle introductions on schedule for later this year.
