The BMW iX4 has been spotted testing on public roads in Munich, offering another look at the upcoming all-electric crossover coupe. While still heavily camouflaged, the prototype provides an early glimpse of what is expected to become BMW’s first battery-powered Sports Activity Coupe when it enters production.
BMW Expands Its Electric Lineup
BMW continues to generate momentum with its electric vehicle lineup. The Neue Klasse-based iX3 has already achieved success in Europe and is gradually expanding into additional markets.
The BMW i3, introduced earlier this year, has also attracted strong customer interest, with orders and reservations increasing enough for BMW to open its order books ahead of schedule.
Additional electric models are expected to join the lineup, including the i1. Meanwhile, the iX5, although not based on the Neue Klasse platform, has also received a positive reception.
BMW iX4 Takes Shape
The latest prototype suggests the BMW X4 will be replaced by the all-electric BMW iX4. As its name indicates, the upcoming model will feature an electric powertrain while retaining the sloping, coupe-like rear design associated with BMW’s crossover coupe models.
Once it reaches production, the iX4 is expected to become the first battery-powered Sports Activity Coupe in BMW’s portfolio.
The vehicle, photographed by Wilcoblok while driving on roads in Munich, remains heavily covered in camouflage, although its overall proportions and fastback-style rear profile are clearly visible.
Expected Launch Timeline
The BMW iX4 carries the internal designation NA7 and is expected to be manufactured at BMW’s Debrecen plant in Hungary.
The electric crossover coupe is expected to be unveiled in the fall of 2026 as a 2027 model.
Although exterior details remain hidden, the prototype is expected to share several styling elements with the BMW iX3 while featuring unique front bumper designs to distinguish the two models.
Expected Design and Powertrain
Based on the available footage, the iX4 follows BMW’s established crossover coupe formula with a sharply sloping rear roofline. The front design is also expected to resemble the iX3.
The report indicates that the iX4 is likely to share its powertrains with the iX3 and the i3.
- A dual-motor 50 xDrive variant could deliver 463 horsepower and 473 lb-ft of torque.
- A lower-spec 40 model without all-wheel drive could also be offered, using a single electric motor producing 315 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
Interior Expectations
The interior is also expected to carry over many elements from the iX3. The report adds that BMW’s “Heart of Joy” central control unit is expected to be included in the new model.
The BMW iX4 continues to progress toward its anticipated reveal in fall 2026, with testing underway ahead of its expected arrival as a 2027 model built at the company’s Debrecen facility in Hungary.
