A Louisiana auto insurance rate decrease affecting hundreds of thousands of drivers has been approved for two Progressive insurance companies, according to Car Insurance News.
The report said Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple authorized Progressive Security Insurance Company to lower its average private passenger auto insurance rates by 6.6%, impacting more than 270,000 policyholders across the state.
Progressive Paloverde Insurance Company was also approved for a 4% average rate decrease covering nearly 200,000 customers.
As reported by Car Insurance News, the latest reduction for Progressive Security follows a previous 3.2% rate decrease the company filed in July 2025.
The two Progressive companies together represent about 23.5% of Louisiana’s private passenger auto insurance market, giving the approved changes broad statewide impact.
The new rates are scheduled to take effect Jan. 16 for new policies and Feb. 13 for renewals. The report noted that the approved figures are statewide averages, meaning individual policyholders may see different premium changes depending on their specific risk profiles.
Car Insurance News cited the Louisiana Department of Insurance as saying the rate decreases are mainly driven by a decline in the frequency of insurance claims.
