
Lexus has revealed updates to its 2026 IS sedan, emphasizing refined styling, improved handling, and upgraded technology rather than a full redesign. The move keeps the IS competitive as other models in the segment either exit the market or pivot entirely to electric powertrains.
Market Differences: Japan vs. U.S.
The 2026 IS lineup varies significantly between markets. In Japan, Lexus offers a special edition based on the IS300h hybrid, giving buyers more styling and configuration options. In the U.S., customers face fewer choices, with a single V6 engine and limited appearance packages. Both markets receive an F Sport-inspired variant, but Japan allows more extensive personalization.
F Sport Variants: Styling Without Full Performance
Japan’s IS F SPORT Mode Black V parallels the U.S. IS 350 F SPORT Special Appearance Package, featuring blacked-out trim, black wheels, and subtle visual tweaks. These models focus on sporty aesthetics rather than significant performance gains. The Japanese edition also includes a full black Ultrasuede interior, enhancing the cabin’s premium feel, while the U.S. package stops short of that feature.
Powertrain Options
Japanese buyers benefit from the IS300h hybrid, emphasizing smoothness and fuel efficiency. American buyers, however, receive only a V6 engine producing 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel-drive models use an eight-speed automatic, and all-wheel-drive variants pair with a six-speed automatic. No hybrid option is offered in the U.S.
TRD Customization in Japan
Japan also sees a complete lineup of TRD parts tailored for the IS, including front spoilers, side skirts, rear diffusers, sports mufflers, chassis braces, performance dampers, and 20-inch forged wheels. These factory-approved accessories allow Japanese owners to customize the IS extensively, a level of personalization that the U.S. market largely leaves to aftermarket solutions.
