Six-Seat Cybertruck: Tesla Owner Builds Custom Configuration at Home

Tesla enthusiasts got a glimpse of a unique six-seat Cybertruck when owner Roger Davis showcased a custom modification at his home driveway this week. The altered pickup features an extra middle seat in the front row, allowing Davis and his family of six to sit together in a layout Tesla has never officially offered.

Shared on Facebook, Davis’ modification replaces the standard center console with a single bench-style seat. While the configuration fits seamlessly, it required compromises, including the removal of storage space and dual cupholders. During the brief demonstration, Davis’ son was seen holding a drink for him, highlighting the trade-offs of the DIY setup.

The six-seat idea has long intrigued Tesla fans, offering potential for larger family trips and outdoor adventures. However, Tesla appears to have abandoned the concept due to safety concerns. A frontal collision could put the center passenger at risk, as no airbag is directly in front of the added seat. Front bench seats are typically limited to commercial or work vehicles, making such a layout unlikely to meet U.S. passenger vehicle safety standards.

For those needing extra seating, Tesla currently offers the Model X with up to seven seats. Rivals like the Rivian R1S and Hyundai Ioniq 9 also provide multiple-row configurations. In China, Tesla markets a three-row Model Y L, but introducing a similar version in the U.S. could disrupt existing lineup strategies and sales of the Model X.

Despite Davis’ creative modification, Tesla’s Cybertruck is expected to remain a five-seat electric pickup from the factory. The All-Wheel Drive trim starts at approximately $79,990, excluding destination fees.
