Volkswagen in-car gaming is coming to select 2027 models in the U.S., with Volkswagen of America introducing N-Dream’s AirConsole platform and allowing passengers to play up to 20 games using their smartphones as controllers.
Which Volkswagen Models Get In-Car Gaming?
The feature will be available on the 2027 Atlas, Atlas Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI and R, and the all-electric ID. Buzz. Volkswagen says it is the first “full-volume automotive brand” in the United States to offer the experience.
Once the vehicle is parked, occupants can connect their smartphones by scanning a QR code displayed on the infotainment screen. The setup eliminates the need for dedicated gaming controllers.
AirConsole Brings Familiar Games to Volkswagen
The launch lineup includes titles such as Tetris, PAC-MAN Championship Edition, and UNO Car Party!, along with other multiplayer games.
Volkswagen has also added brand-specific elements to the experience. Games including Golazo! and Memory Match will feature VW-themed content.
On vehicles equipped with compatible ambient lighting, the cabin lighting can respond to gameplay. A special version of PAC-MAN also replaces the traditional pellets with VW logos and swaps the bonus fruit for notable models from Volkswagen’s back catalog.
Volkswagen AirConsole Requires a Subscription
Rachel Zaluzec, Chief Marketing Officer at Volkswagen of America, said the company views in-car gaming as another way to make time spent inside its vehicles more entertaining.
“In-vehicle gaming helps turn everyday moments into shared experiences, giving families and friends a new way to connect, laugh, and spend time together while enjoying their Volkswagen.”
AirConsole is part of Volkswagen’s In-Vehicle Premium package, which includes a subscription after the initial access period.
Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, and Golf models receive three months of access from purchase, while ID. Buzz buyers receive one year of access. After that, owners will need to pay $149 per year to continue using AirConsole and the other eligible connected features included in the package.
Volkswagen Joins a Growing In-Car Gaming Market
In-car gaming is already available from several automakers. Tesla introduced its Arcade feature years ago, while BMW was the first automaker to integrate AirConsole into its vehicles.
Audi joined the AirConsole lineup in 2025, followed shortly afterward by Porsche. Volkswagen is therefore not the first automaker to offer AirConsole, but the company is bringing the platform to models such as the Atlas and Tiguan.
With the 2027 model lineup, Volkswagen is expanding AirConsole in-car gaming beyond the premium brands that have largely offered the feature to date, while access will remain tied to the automaker’s In-Vehicle Premium subscription package.
