The Genesis GV90 is introducing a new approach to modern luxury with technology designed to transform the flagship SUV’s cabin into a private entertainment space, led by its pop-up OLED Cinematic Display and next-generation infotainment system.
Genesis GV90 Brings a New Luxury Focus
Luxury remains one of the most difficult segments for automakers to enter and succeed in because preferences are subjective and personal. While performance and efficiency can be measured more directly, defining what consumers consider luxurious is far less straightforward.
Genesis has emerged as a serious player in the luxury automotive segment since being established as the top marque for the Hyundai group. Its latest model, the GV90 flagship SUV, takes that approach further with a range of innovative features.
Pop-Up OLED Cinematic Display
One of the GV90’s key features is its pop-up OLED Cinematic Display infotainment system. Genesis developed the concept around the idea of turning a personal vehicle into a private luxury theater.
The system combines a 24.6-inch center screen with a 25-inch head-up display that replaces a traditional instrument cluster. It also runs Pleos Connect, described as the brand’s first-ever newest-generation infotainment operating system.
The HUD displays relevant vehicle information at once, including navigation, speed and ADAS features. Drivers can also use the in-car AI assistant, Gleo AI, to control vehicle functions, search for information and perform various tasks through natural voice commands.
Both the Cinematic Display and Pleos Connect offer flexibility that was not available in previous systems, with their hardware and software specifically tailored for the GV90.
Expandable OLED Screen Adds Viewing Area
The center display initially measures 23.6 inches. When the middle extension button is pressed, the screen rises by an additional 3.5 inches, increasing the viewing area by 1.7 times.
The OLED display has a resolution of 3840 x 1440. An accompanying animation further enhances the immersive effect as the screen expands.
Creating a Home Theater Inside the GV90
Senior Research Engineer Inho Yoon of the Infotainment Platform Development Team said the team views modern vehicles as more than transportation, describing them as “spaces for a broader range of experiences.”
Cars now serve purposes beyond transportation, while electric vehicles can continue powering a range of features even when parked. Genesis sees those capabilities as an opportunity to create new experiences inside the vehicle.
With the Cinematic Display and Pleos Connect, the goal was to create a home theater-like experience inside the GV90. When the display extends, it switches to Media Home mode, allowing users to access streaming services and live channels* in a format similar to a smart TV at home.
