The 2027 Subaru Impreza is getting a major price cut while gaining a more powerful engine, making the base model cheaper and more capable. The new Impreza also becomes the cheapest all-wheel-drive car available in America.
Subaru Cuts the Impreza Price by $2,000
Subaru has reduced the MSRP of the base Impreza by $2,000, dropping it from $26,595 to $24,595. The destination charge has increased by $50 to $1,245, bringing the total price to $25,840, which represents an overall savings of $1,950 compared with last year.
The base model is no longer called the Sport trim. Meanwhile, the RS continues with an MSRP of $29,495, unchanged from last year. With the destination charge included, however, the RS is $50 more expensive.
The Impreza is not the cheapest compact car on the market because the Civic and Corolla sedans are priced below it. However, it is the cheapest hatchback available in America.
More notably, the Impreza is also the cheapest car in America with all-wheel drive. It undercuts subcompact crossovers including the 2027 Nissan Kicks and 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer, whose MSRPs are above $26,000 and $25,000, respectively.
The 2027 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport also costs more than the Impreza, with all-wheel drive offered at an MSRP above $26,000.
More Power for the Base Impreza
Subaru has also replaced the base Impreza’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with the more powerful 2.5-liter engine that was previously exclusive to the RS trim.
The 2.5-liter produces 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. That is an increase of 28 horsepower and 33 pound-feet compared with the 2.0-liter engine.
The added output makes the Impreza one of the most powerful base-trim compact cars on the market, putting it ahead of the base Civic and Corolla hatchbacks and nearly matching the Mazda3.
The only transmission remains a CVT, but the Impreza gets paddle shifters and eight preset ratios that drivers can shift through if desired.
What the Base Impreza Gives Up
Subaru reduced some of the standard equipment to help lower the price. The base Impreza loses the large 11.6-inch infotainment screen and instead gets split screens in the center stack, with the upper display handling infotainment and the lower display controlling the climate system.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available, but they are now wired rather than wireless. The base model also has four speakers instead of six, while its alloy wheels have been reduced from 18 inches to 17 inches.
The base Impreza does not offer option packages, meaning buyers who want additional equipment will need to move up to the RS.
Base Impreza Still Includes Key Features
Despite the equipment reductions, the base Impreza retains alloy wheels and phone mirroring. It also comes with dual-zone automatic climate control.
Its safety and convenience features include steering headlights and adaptive cruise control with lane centering.
Impreza RS Adds More Equipment
The RS brings a broader equipment list for its higher price. It gets the large infotainment display, wireless phone mirroring, 18-inch wheels and six speakers.
The RS also adds fog lights, a sound-insulated windshield, sportier exterior trim, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and rear-seat charging ports.
Safety equipment expands with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. Buyers can also add an optional sunroof, power-adjustable driver’s seat and 10-speaker sound system.
Both Impreza models will be available by the end of the year.
Could a Turbocharged Impreza TX Be Coming?
Subaru has also filed trademark protection for a new Impreza name: the Impreza TX. The automaker has previously used a “T” in its trims to indicate turbocharged models, raising the possibility that a turbocharged Impreza could be in development.
However, Subaru’s spokesperson declined to comment when contacted about the trademark. Automakers also commonly trademark names they ultimately do not use for production.
For now, the Impreza TX remains unconfirmed, while the new Impreza lineup combines a lower base price with a more powerful 2.5-liter engine and a revised equipment package.
