A new safety recall involving the 2026 Ford Ranger could leave drivers without a rear-view camera image when shifting into reverse because of a faulty center display.
Faulty Display Can Disable the Rear-View Camera
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a safety recall report concerning the 2026 Ford Ranger. According to the report, affected vehicles may experience an unexpected blank or black SYNC 4 Center Stack display, making the rear-view camera (RVC) image unavailable when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
The affected 10.1-inch center stack infotainment screen may go blank or black because of a loss of power. The power loss is caused by an open display fuse triggered by an electrical short circuit on the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA).
According to the internal analysis, the short circuit is linked to a cracked multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). The MLCC contains materials suspected to be counterfeit and does not meet engineering specifications.
The NHTSA report states that a blank screen can impair the driver’s backup vision and could increase the risk of an accident.
Supplier Linked to the Faulty Part
The NHTSA recall report identifies the supplier of the faulty part as SUZHOU DONGSHAN DISPLAY INC., which originates from China.
Ford first became aware of the fault in August and conducted its own preliminary investigation. That investigation revealed the specific fault and its cause.
No Repair Available Yet
Ford does not yet have a fix for the issue, according to the NHTSA recall report. The automaker will email affected owners once a remedy is officially confirmed.
The recall affects a total of 11,405 vehicles built from Apr 21, 2026 – Sep 03, 2026.
