The BMW iX4 is officially coming, with BMW confirming that the electric coupe-SUV will go on sale before the end of 2026. The announcement was included in a document released this week during a two-day Capital Markets event, confirming the arrival of a model that had previously been widely reported as being in development.

BMW iX4 Will Be the Sportier iX3

Known internally by the codename “NA7,” the BMW iX4 will serve as the sportier-looking sibling to the iX3. The two models are expected to share much of their hardware, but the iX4 will feature a more dramatic body shape.

Its roofline will drop significantly behind the B-pillars, creating the coupe-SUV profile while reducing some rear headroom and cargo space compared with the regular iX3.

That positioning gives the iX3 the advantage for buyers focused on maximum practicality, while the iX4 will target those looking for a more distinctive design. The new electric model will slot above the iX2 and below an alleged iX6 expected later this decade.

BMW Could Produce the iX4 in Hungary

BMW has not released technical specifications for the iX4, but the model is expected to share most of its mechanical components with the iX3. Production is also expected to take place in Debrecen, Hungary, alongside the conventionally shaped model.

The Hungarian facility is already operating 24/7 after BMW added a third shift to meet strong demand for the iX3.

The iX3, known internally as the “NA5,” has accumulated 100,000 orders within a year. The iX4 is expected to be a niche model, similar to the gas-powered X4 it indirectly replaces in BMW’s lineup.

BMW’s portfolio is also set to lose some models. The 2 Series Active Tourer has already been confirmed to end production without a replacement.

BMW iX4 Expected to Cost More Than the iX3

BMW has not announced pricing for the iX4, but the model is expected to carry a premium over an equivalent iX3. The higher price would come alongside its less practical coupe-SUV body style.

For reference, the iX3 starts at $62,850 in the United States for the 50 xDrive. In Germany, pricing begins at €63,400 for the iX3 40.

BMW iX4 Could Be Revealed Soon

The timing of the iX4 launch is one of the biggest details in BMW’s announcement. The company says the electric SUV will go on sale before the end of 2026, indicating that its official reveal could take place soon.

The iX4 will not be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show because BMW is not attending, despite initially saying it would travel to the City of Lights. The model could appear at the Athens Auto Show next week, although that has not been confirmed.

With the iX4 now officially confirmed, BMW is bringing back the X4 formula in electric form, without a gas or diesel engine beneath its coupe-style roof.
