A Cadillac Optiq recall covering the 2025, 2026 and 2027 model years affects 29,347 vehicles, according to a notice published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue involves the power windows failing to properly stop and reverse when the express-up feature is activated using the vehicle’s key fob.
Cadillac Optiq Power Window Issue
GM detected the problem on June 26, 2026, after a dealer noticed that the Cadillac Optiq’s power windows would not properly stop when they encountered an object while the express-up feature was activated through the key fob.
In accordance with FMVSS No. 118, S5, GM tested five vehicles equipped with the closure hardware. Four of the five vehicles failed to consistently meet the stop-reverse requirements when the express-up feature was activated using the key fob.
The recall report states that 100% of the affected units have the defect.
Pinch Protection Fails to Meet the Standard
FMVSS No. 118, S5 is intended to protect users from power windows that fail to reverse when an object is in their path. The potential obstruction could include an object, a limb or a child’s head extending through the window.
According to the NHTSA recall report, “If a power window fails to stop and reverse while operating the express-up feature from the key fob, there is an increased risk of injury to a person in its path.”
GM’s power window supplier reportedly set the upper travel range of the pinch protection below the FMVSS No. 118 standard.
The issue is software-related. The source compares it with the Hyundai Palisade’s fatal rear power seat issue, where the seats would fold regardless of whether an object or person was in the way.
Cadillac Optiq Software Update
Owners of 2025, 2026 and 2027 model year Cadillac Optiqs will receive a software update through a dealer or an over-the-air update, where supported.
According to the report, GM will “update the front side door window software calibrations in the body control module (BCM).” Vehicles that support over-the-air updates can receive the fix remotely, while owners without over-the-air capability can visit a dealer to have the update installed.
GM has also identified the issue on its production line. The necessary calibrations were made to the Optiq’s production line at GM’s assembly plant on September 22, 2026.
