The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas has entered assembly at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant, marking a key milestone for the automaker’s U.S. operations as it works to keep sales strong and refresh important models.
Volkswagen Celebrates 2027 Atlas Production
Volkswagen of America recently celebrated the start of assembly for the 2027 Atlas at its Chattanooga facility. The event brought together Volkswagen leadership, local government officials and community stakeholders, who signed a special commemorative Atlas hood.
The Atlas was first integrated into the Chattanooga facility in 2016 and has since become one of Volkswagen of America’s top-selling models. The automaker designed the SUV specifically for the North American market as demand for three-row SUVs continues to rise.
Volkswagen invested more than $900 million in the Chattanooga facility to integrate Atlas production, representing a long-term commitment to building vehicles for North American motorists.
Chattanooga Has Built More Than 1 Million Atlas Models
Since 2016, the Chattanooga plant has produced more than one million Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models. More than 4,000 skilled workers are part of the plant’s operations.
Henning Habicht, Head of Volkswagen Chattanooga Operations, said the start of 2027 Atlas assembly represents an important achievement for the Chattanooga team.
“Starting assembly of the all-new 2027 Atlas is an exciting milestone for our Chattanooga team,” Habicht said. “This achievement reflects the skill, dedication, and commitment of our workforce, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail are at the heart of every vehicle we assemble.”
2027 Atlas Gets Updated Design and Features
The 2027 Atlas builds on the model’s existing success with a redesigned exterior that is described as bolder than before. The refreshed SUV also brings improved technology and additional premium features.
The updates come as Volkswagen works through a broader restructuring that includes closing production facilities and streamlining its lineup while refreshing key models and maintaining sales.
Atlas Remains a Major Volkswagen Seller
The Atlas was Volkswagen America’s second-best-selling model last year, with 71,044 units sold. That total was only 7,000 units below the brand’s top-selling vehicle, the Tiguan LWB.
SUVs account for more than 80% of Volkswagen North America’s total sales, underscoring the importance of models such as the Atlas to the automaker’s business in the region.
