The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is subject to a service advisory over a potential taillight water leak, affecting vehicles that have not yet been sold and are still sitting in dealership inventory lots. The issue reportedly involves a partially seated taillamp harness grommet that could allow water to enter the vehicle during heavy rain.
Chevrolet Bolt Taillight Leak Investigation
According to a report by GM Authority, the reported problem centers on the taillights of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. A partially seated taillamp harness grommet may allow water to enter the vehicle when the rear lamps are exposed to heavy rain.
GM will use a pressure washer to simulate car-wash or heavy-rain conditions when testing whether a Bolt has the faulty harness grommet.
Technicians can also inspect both sides of the vehicle by folding the rear seats and looking through the seat-latch striker. They then spray water around each taillight for one minute while checking for water intrusion into the cabin.
How the Chevrolet Bolt Repair Works
If enough water enters the vehicle, the technician will remove the taillight and reinstall it properly. The water test is then repeated to confirm that the repair has worked before the vehicle is signed off.
The report indicates that GM did not list any part replacements for the issue. Instead, the taillight grommets need to be properly installed to address the potential leak.
No Part Replacement Required
According to GM, the repair process should not take too long. The automaker also says that because the Chevrolet Bolt is an EV, both the diagnosis and repair need to be performed by an official technician.
The service advisory affects Bolts that remain in inventory lots, meaning the vehicles involved have not yet been sold to customers.
