A new Back to the Future Toyota Tacoma tribute truck is giving fans another modern take on Marty McFly’s iconic 1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab 4×4. Built by a Texas Toyota dealer rather than Toyota itself, the truck is based on a 2026 Tacoma TRD Sport i-Force Max and features a series of off-road modifications inspired by the movie pickup.
A Modern Tribute to Marty McFly’s Truck
The DeLorean DMC-12 may be the best-known vehicle from the Back to the Future franchise, but the films also featured the 1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab 4×4 driven by protagonist Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox.
Toyota previously embraced the connection by recreating the truck with a 2016 Tacoma. That version was showcased at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
This latest tribute comes from Longo Toyota of Prosper in Texas. Unlike Toyota’s earlier recreation, it is not an official special edition. Instead, the dealer built the truck around a 2026 Tacoma TRD Sport i-Force Max and equipped it with modifications designed to resemble the movie truck.
What the McFly Treatment Includes
The dealer-installed upgrades include a 2.5-inch ReadyLIFT SST lift kit, 33-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Legend MTZ tires and 17×8.5-inch Method 709 wheels.
The truck also receives a Fab Fours front bumper, a Go Rhino sport bar and a Nacho Lighting switch panel. Six 6-inch KC Daylighter lights provide one of the most prominent visual references to the original movie truck.
Additional equipment includes a 14-inch infotainment screen, a bed step, a dash cam, along with a black tailgate insert and exhaust tip.
Tacoma Powertrain and 4WD System
Under the hood, the tribute truck retains the Tacoma TRD Sport i-Force Max powertrain. The hybridized 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four produces 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to a four-wheel-drive system through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Back to the Future Tacoma Is Listed at $70,725
The dealer lists $17,334 in dealer-installed accessories, while the truck itself carries a Total SRP of $52,941.
That brings the final advertised price to $70,725 before taxes and government fees. The price may be steep for some buyers, particularly because the flagship Tacoma TRD Pro is available for $64,750.
However, the dealer-built truck could appeal specifically to Back to the Future fans drawn to both the franchise’s wedge-shaped time machine with its flux capacitor and McFly’s dream truck.
The Toyota Pickup Before the Tacoma
The Tacoma did not arrive until 1995, when Toyota introduced the pickup specifically for North America. Before then, the model was sold in the United States simply as the Toyota Pickup.
The earlier truck shared its roots with the global Hilux, with previous versions finding ways around the 25% Chicken Tax.
Today, the Tacoma remains one of Toyota’s North America-focused nameplates alongside its larger sibling, the Tundra.
