The ShowTime Repco-Mod 933 is taking a Porsche 996 in a radically different direction, replacing its liquid-cooled flat-six with a twin-turbocharged Chevrolet LS V8 mounted at the front. The project, created by Australia’s Gary Reid of ShowTime in partnership with parts supplier Repco, is still being completed but has already received more than 1,800 man-hours of work.
A Porsche 996 With a Front-Mounted LS V8
Custom Porsche 911 builds often bring names such as Singer, RWB and RUF to mind, but the ShowTime Repco-Mod 933 is taking a distinctly different approach. The project started with a Porsche 996 and remains a work in progress.
Reid set out to challenge the idea that a large Chevrolet LS engine could not be fitted into Porsche’s flagship sports car. The result is an LS V8 equipped with twin turbos and positioned up front, where the 911’s engine would not normally be found.
The project’s creator has not yet released further technical details, leaving the car’s power output unknown for now. The engine conversion is only part of the extensive work being carried out on the 996.
Widebody Design and Carbon Fiber Components
The ShowTime Repco-Mod 933 features an aluminum widebody kit, while the hood, roof and doors are made from carbon fiber.
At the rear, the car wears a large wing that Reid says will “make more downforce than a Hulk Hogan elbow-drop” when the build is complete.
The interior has also been modified with a protective roll cage, while race-spec suspension and brakes have been fitted all around.
More Than 1,800 Man-Hours Into the Build
More than 1,800 man-hours have already gone into the LS-powered Porsche 996, although the project is not finished yet. Additional work remains before Reid can complete the build.
The finished ShowTime Repco-Mod 933 is scheduled to make its debut at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000, which is set to take place from October 8–11 at the Mount Panorama Circuit.
