The 2027 Hyundai Tucson has entered its fifth generation, making its public debut Friday at a media event in South Korea. The redesigned SUV was previously seen only in photos, but footage from the event now provides a closer look at its interior, technology and new XRT trim.

2027 Hyundai Tucson Interior Focuses on Technology

Video recorded by CarSceneKorea on YouTube offers a detailed walkaround of the fifth-generation Tucson, highlighting several of the SUV’s new features.

One of the most prominent elements is a large moonroof extending from the front to the rear of the cabin. Hyundai has not clarified whether the feature will be standard equipment or an option.

The rear doors feature integrated window shades, while the rear seats are separated by a foldable center armrest with built-in cupholders. Rear passengers also gain just over an inch of additional headroom and slightly more legroom.

The trunk provides close to one cubic foot of additional cargo capacity. When more room is required, the rear seats can be folded electronically.

New Infotainment Displays and Pleos Connect

The front portion of the cabin, which Hyundai had previously shown in photos, is now easier to see. The 2027 Tucson can be equipped with either a 12.9-inch display or a larger 17-inch screen.

The SUV is also Hyundai’s first to receive the company’s Pleos Connect infotainment system with Gleo AI. Physical buttons remain available for some basic functions, although there are fewer of them than in the outgoing Tucson.

Hyundai Tucson XRT Gets a More Rugged Design

The South Korean reveal also brought new official images of the redesigned Tucson, including the off-road-focused XRT trim.

The latest images provide a closer look at Hyundai’s Art of Steel design language and show that the XRT goes beyond all-terrain tires and black exterior trim. The trim features a completely new front fascia, bold side body cladding with a carbon effect and a skid plate.

Hyundai also released additional photos showing the 2027 Tucson’s exterior in greater detail.

2027 Tucson Engine and Fuel Economy Details

Hyundai has also revealed details about the powertrains available for the next-generation Tucson. Buyers can choose between a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 190 horsepower and a hybrid setup producing 242 horsepower.

An eight-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the wheels, while the hybrid can deliver fuel economy of up to 41 miles per gallon.

New Safety and Convenience Features

The 2027 Tucson includes forward parking collision avoidance, pedal misapplication assistance and backup power that allows the vehicle’s doors to be unlocked even if the main power supply is cut off.

The SUV also introduces Stay Mode, which keeps the infotainment and climate control systems operating while the engine is dormant.

Design Draws Inspiration From Korean Clothing

Hyundai’s latest reveal provides a closer look at the design details of the new Tucson. One of the most noticeable elements is a large diagonal crease running along the vehicle’s side profile.

Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, said the design draws inspiration from traditional Korean clothing known as “Hanbok.” When the robe-like clothing is worn, its overlapping fabric can create a diagonal line.

The same diagonal-line motif appears inside the Tucson’s doors, where it separates the door handles from the speakers.

Distinctive New Taillight Design

Another notable exterior feature is the Tucson’s taillight design. When the lights are switched off, the taillights appear as clear white plastic.

A flush panel illuminates the housing from inside, while portions of the housing are frosted to capture the red glow and diffuse it across the piece, creating a larger lighting footprint.

Overall, the fifth-generation Tucson represents a transformative design for the SUV, with an appearance that barely resembles previous Tucson generations.
