The 2027 Hyundai Tucson is entering a new phase of design, but Hyundai is keeping one increasingly valued feature: physical buttons and dials. The redesigned crossover also brings more practical storage solutions and additional powertrain options, including a hybrid for the XRT.
Hyundai Keeps Physical Controls
A couple of automakers have acknowledged that they went too far with capacitive touch controls, with some taking corrective action. Volkswagen, for example, has moved back toward physical controls with the ID. Polo and ID. Cross.
Hyundai is taking a similar approach by continuing to use buttons and dials even as more vehicle functions move to digital interfaces. That strategy carries into the redesigned 2027 Tucson.
2027 Tucson Gets a More Practical Cabin
The 2027 Tucson follows the new design language first seen on the Elantra, while adding several details that distinguish it from the sedan. Although the interior and exterior have changed significantly from the previous model, the dashboard remains designed for straightforward use.
The cabin has a light, minimalist appearance, with smooth surfaces and gentle curves. Screens remain part of the interior, but they do not define the cabin.
Like the Elantra, the Tucson features a slim instrument cluster display. Moving the instrument display into a smaller, raised panel frees up space in the center of the dashboard, allowing Hyundai to create a cubby bin.
The 2027 Tucson also has storage behind the steering wheel, a first for the crossover. The raised center console creates another large storage bin underneath, while scalloped door panels provide additional room for the arms.
2027 Tucson Hybrid Adds More Power
The 2027 Tucson will offer the XRT with a hybrid powertrain. It uses the familiar 1.6-liter turbo-hybrid setup, but the system produces more power than the current model based on the home-market specifications.
The hybrid is now rated at 242 hp and 280 lb-ft, compared with 231 hp and 271 lb-ft in the current model.
The U.S. press release also mentioned a 1.6-liter turbo engine producing 190 hp and 195 lb-ft, based on South Korean specifications. That could mean the non-turbo 2.5-liter engine will eventually be retired, allowing the base Tucson to be more closely aligned with rivals that continue to offer pure combustion versions.
A plug-in hybrid will also be offered down the line, producing 288 hp.
2027 Hyundai Tucson U.S. Availability
Hyundai USA says the 2027 Tucson will appear in showrooms by “early 2027.” The redesigned model combines Hyundai’s updated design language with physical controls, expanded storage and a broader range of powertrain choices.
