The 2027 Mini Countryman Untamed is bringing a more rugged setup to Mini’s crossover lineup, combining suspension changes, all-terrain tires and protective exterior features with equipment designed for outdoor adventures.
The Untamed Edition also draws on Mini’s rally car heritage and the growing adventure vehicle trend. While it is not positioned as a hardcore off-roader like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco or Toyota 4Runner, the new Countryman receives several updates intended to make it more capable on dirt.
Countryman Untamed Gets More Ground Clearance
The latest Mini crossover receives a 0.6-inch suspension lift through trim-specific shock and spring calibrations. Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires add to the changes, giving the Countryman Untamed Edition an additional 0.75 inches of total ground clearance.
Based on those figures, the Mini SUV should have about 8.8 inches of total clearance underneath it, matching the regular Subaru Forester while sitting about half an inch below the Forester Wilderness.
The Countryman Untamed also comes up a couple of tenths short of the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk’s ground clearance. However, its 106.1-inch wheelbase is shorter than the Jeep’s, which could improve maneuverability in tight forest areas.
Other mechanical updates have not been specified, so it remains unclear whether the Untamed Edition will receive a comprehensive set of off-road drive modes found in some ruggedized crossovers.
Mini Keeps the 241-HP Powertrain
For 2027, the Countryman Untamed carries over the powertrain from the S All4 model. That means a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
In the regular Cooper, that powertrain delivers a 0-60 sprint of 6.2 seconds. The figure is quicker than the Subaru Forester Wilderness or the non-Trailhawk Cherokee, although the Cherokee Trailhawk off-road model has not launched yet.
Exterior Changes Protect the Countryman
Mini has also focused on protecting the Countryman Untamed from the scratches and scrapes that can come with driving off-road. Textured matte black decals cover the rocker panels and wheel arches to help protect the bodywork from light trail damage.
The Untamed Edition features darker metallic body trim and a unique front grille with vertical vanes to distinguish the rugged model. It also receives special 19-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the trim.
Rugged Interior and Rooftop Tent
Inside, the Countryman Untamed receives Dark Steel brightwork in place of Classic Silver, along with standard all-weather floor mats and a luggage area liner.
Nightshade Blue accents appear on the seats, stitching and fabric steering wheel spoke. A multi-purpose center console cubby adds flexible storage space.
The ruggedized Mini also includes a roof rack capable of carrying 165 pounds of dynamic load and more than 600 pounds of static load. That capacity supports the available Autohome rooftop tent, which opens into an enclosed sleeping platform for two and was custom-developed by Mini and the outdoor adventure company.
U.S. Countryman Untamed Gets Standard Towing Equipment
For the U.S. market, the Countryman Untamed comes standard with a trailer hitch and a 3,500-pound towing rating.
With its increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, protective exterior treatments, rooftop equipment and unchanged 241-horsepower powertrain, the 2027 Mini Countryman Untamed adds a more adventure-focused configuration to the crossover lineup.
