BMW is preparing another electric vehicle based on its Neue Klasse modular platform, and the automaker’s latest teaser appears to reveal the upcoming BMW iX4. The new EV will follow the naming convention of BMW’s X4 and X6 “Sports Activity Coupes” and is expected to use a fastback roofline that emphasizes style over practicality.

BMW iX4 Gets a More Aggressive Roofline

Unlike the iX3, which has a more conventional profile with a mostly upright D-pillar and long, flat roof, the iX4 appears significantly more aggressively styled.

The teaser provides only a grainy look at the vehicle’s silhouette, but it shows a sloping rear section similar to the internal-combustion X4 that went out of production in 2025. The teaser also reveals a distinct Hofmeister kink on the D-pillar quarter window, giving the design a closer connection to BMW’s heritage than the differently shaped feature on the iX3.

The iX4 is expected to retain most of the iX3’s design elements below the beltline, while its front lighting appears to be closely related to the flat-roofed electric SUV.

One apparent difference is the use of yellow daytime running lights. The design feature was previously limited to BMW’s specialized CS models, but it appears in the iX4 teaser.

BMW iX4 Could Share the iX3 Powertrain

BMW has not detailed the iX4’s powertrain, but it is expected to retain the same mechanical setup as the iX3, which is offered in the U.S. as a single “50 xDrive” trim level.

That setup uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, powered by a 108.7-kilowatt-hour battery.

BMW says in the teaser that the iX4 will have a “distinctly dynamic edge.” That could point to performance upgrades, although the description could also refer to the vehicle’s sporty fastback design.

Range and Charging Could Match the iX3

The iX3 reaches a maximum EPA-tested range of 434 miles. The iX4 could potentially be more aerodynamic than its sibling, which may make it more efficient.

The iX4 is also expected to retain the iX3’s 400-kilowatt maximum DC fast-charging capability. That system should allow a 10% to 80% recharge in 21 minutes while adding roughly 300 miles of range.

BMW’s latest teaser confirms that the iX4 will expand the automaker’s Neue Klasse EV lineup with a more aggressively styled fastback design, while many of its technical details are expected to remain closely related to the iX3.
