The Renault E-Space Concept is set to make its debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, bringing the Espace name back to its minivan roots with an all-electric concept that blends retro design cues with modern technology.

Renault E-Space Revives the Minivan Formula

The Renault Espace is known for pioneering the minivan in Europe. Its first generation launched in 1984, just one year after Chrysler introduced the Plymouth Voyager. Five more generations followed, with the latest arriving in 2023 with a more SUV-like design.

Essentially a stretched version of Renault’s Austral compact SUV, the latest Espace represented a major departure from the traditional minivan formula. Renault now appears ready to revisit that approach with the new E-Space Concept.

Renault has released a first look at the concept ahead of its debut in the French capital. Its design combines retro elements inspired by the first- and second-generation Espace with a modern, streamlined and sculpted appearance.

LED detailing adds to the contemporary look, while conventional side mirrors have been replaced by rearward-facing cameras.

An Electric Rival for the Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The separation of the letter E from Espace signals that the concept uses an electric powertrain, with Renault branding the technology E-Tech. The automaker has not yet revealed details about the powertrain itself.

Earlier this year, Renault announced its new RG EV Medium 2.0 modular platform for EVs up to the midsize segment. The platform features LFP batteries and can integrate a range-extender.

The E-Space Concept measures 185 inches in length and combines its electric powertrain with retro-inspired styling. In Europe, the standard-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz measures just half an inch more.

Renault also highlights modularity as a key feature of the concept, reflecting an important characteristic of the original Espace. That could give the E-Space an advantage over the ID. Buzz, where modularity is described as somewhat lacking.

Production Plans Remain Unclear

Renault has not yet provided details on whether the E-Space Concept will enter production. The automaker says more information will be revealed when the Paris Motor Show opens on October 12.

That leaves the concept’s future uncertain, but its positioning could put it directly against the Volkswagen ID. Buzz if Renault ultimately decides to build it.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz Faces Its Own Challenges

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has attracted attention with its retro-inspired design, but its lengthy run-up to production and high price have affected the excitement surrounding the van.

It launched in Europe in 2022, two years before reaching U.S. markets. Its initial European sticker price was approximately 64,000 Euros.

When the ID. Buzz eventually arrived in the U.S., it was technically a 2025 model-year vehicle with a starting price of around $60,000. The exclusive 1st Edition was the only version available at launch, priced at $65,000 and offering only about 230 miles of range.

The van has performed better in Europe, where the shorter version is available at a lower price point and as a work van. Approximately 53,000 were sold in the region in 2025.

In the U.S., however, the Buzz is presently on hiatus until the 2028 model year. If Renault has production ambitions for the E-Space Concept, the European market could provide room for it to compete with the ID. Buzz.

The Volkswagen model is also likely to remain around for the foreseeable future.

More Renault Concepts Coming to Paris

The E-Space Concept will not be the only major attraction on Renault’s stand at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The automaker’s display will cover almost 27,000 square feet and feature several other vehicles.

Among them will be the new Twingo E-Tech electric subcompact hatch, equipped with its Twingobay panoramic glass roof. The roof is designed to bring more natural light into the cabin while filtering out up to 99.9% of UV rays and most infrared radiation.

Renault 8 Gordini Returns as an Electric Concept

Renault will also showcase the Renault 8 Gordini Concept as a tribute to its performance heritage. The electric, two-seat coupe reimagines the legendary 1960s Renault 8 Gordini with racing-inspired proportions and styling cues taken from the original.

Renault says the concept is strictly a tribute.

Updated Megane E-Tech Electric Also Debuts

Rounding out Renault’s highlights will be an updated Megane E-Tech electric compact SUV. The model receives a sharper exterior design and a new 67-kilowatt-hour LFP battery that promises more range and quicker charging.

The updated Megane E-Tech also gains an improved infotainment system with Google built-in and support for the Gemini assistant.

The Renault E-Space Concept will take center stage when the 2026 Paris Motor Show opens on October 12, when Renault is expected to reveal more about the electric minivan’s design and potential future.
