Porsche is preparing to reveal its next-generation Porsche hypercar, reportedly known as the Mission S, with the concept expected to be unveiled by October 15, 2026. The model is expected to follow the 918 Spyder as the brand’s hypercar for the 2020s, although key details about its powertrain and production name remain unresolved.

Porsche’s Decades of Hypercars

Porsche’s halo road cars trace their roots to the 959 in the 1980s. Although the term “hypercar” had not yet been coined, the 959 was a technological marvel and became one of the first production cars to approach 200 mph before the Ferrari F40 surpassed it.

In the 1990s, Porsche introduced the 911 GT1 Straßenversion, which was essentially a Le Mans racer adapted for road use, with the decals removed and a few creature comforts added.

The 2000s brought the Carrera GT, known for its V10 engine and sleek design. Then, in the 2010s, the 918 Spyder combined electrification with performance to deliver highly effective results.

Porsche’s New Hypercar for the 2020s

Built from 2013 to 2015, Porsche produced only 918 examples of the 918 Spyder. That puts 13 years between its premiere and 11 years since the final example left the production line.

Now, Porsche is reportedly preparing its next-generation hypercar for the 2020s. The model has been referred to as the Mission S, although that name may not ultimately be used for the production car.

The project is also part of Porsche’s plan to sell higher-margin models while selling fewer cars. The strategy carries risks, but the company is positioning the new model as another high-end offering for its lineup.

The Mission S May Not Be an EV

The Mission name has previously been associated with Porsche’s electric vehicles, but the upcoming hypercar does not appear to follow that formula.

In an earlier report, the hypercar was said to have received the blessing of CEO Michael Leiters and to feature a newly developed V8 engine. The Mission S has also been reported as not being an EV, although some form of electrification could still be used, similar to the approach taken with the 918 Spyder.

Another possibility is a mid-mounted flat-8 engine rather than a V8, but that remains unsubstantiated. Regardless of which configuration Porsche chooses, the Mission S is expected to have at least eight cylinders under its clamshell.

A Different Platform Approach

The Mission S will reportedly be based on a modified 911 platform rather than a bespoke chassis.

That would mark a departure from the approach used for the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. However, it could bring the new Porsche hypercar closer to the 911 GT1 from the 1990s.

When Will Porsche Reveal the Mission S?

The Mission S is likely to be a concept, as Porsche has never used “Mission” as the name of one of its production models.

That could change if Porsche decides to break with tradition and use the Mission S name for the production vehicle. A different production name, however, may be more likely.

For now, the key date is October 15, 2026, when Porsche is expected to pull the covers off the concept. The reveal should provide a clearer look at what the successor to the 918 Spyder will bring, including whether it uses a V8 or flat-8 engine.

What to Expect From Porsche’s Next Hypercar

The Mission S represents Porsche’s reported next step in its line of high-performance halo cars, following the 959, 911 GT1 Straßenversion, Carrera GT and 918 Spyder.

While its final name and engine configuration have yet to be settled, the expected October 15, 2026, reveal should offer the first clear indication of Porsche’s direction for its next-generation hypercar.
