The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback will become the first major model introduced under Mitsubishi’s “Momentum 2030” plan as the automaker works to regain a stronger foothold in the North American market. The all-new electric crossover/SUV is scheduled to launch sometime in October, with an approved starting price of $37,745, excluding destination fees.
2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback
Mitsubishi will offer the Eclipse Sportback with a single available option, the Technology Package, priced at $2,600. The package adds an Electrochromatic Panoramic Glass Roof that can switch from transparent to opaque at the push of a button.
The Technology Package also includes a premium Bose sound system, a hands-free power tailgate and roof rails.
Powering the Eclipse Sportback is a 75-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack with a claimed range of 282 miles on a single charge. Its electric motor produces 214 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque.
The model will support Level 1 and Level 2 charging through the SAE J1772 format, along with Level 3 charging using Tesla’s NACS format.
Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 Strategy
The Eclipse Sportback is based on the Nissan Leaf, with similarities visible in both the exterior styling and interior layout. The Leaf also offers multiple models and trims with starting prices of $29,990, putting it well below the Eclipse Sportback’s starting price. Nissan also charges a lower destination fee.
Despite those differences, the 2027 Eclipse Sportback represents the first step in Mitsubishi’s broader “Momentum 2030” strategy for North America.
The next major addition is expected to be a new, more rugged off-road version of the Outlander SUV, which Mitsubishi expects to introduce in early 2027.
More Off-Road Models Planned
Mitsubishi says its North American strategy will focus on expanding its lineup of adventure-oriented, off-road-capable vehicles as customers shift toward more rugged and versatile options.
The plan also includes Mitsubishi relaunching a pickup truck in the U.S. through its partnership with Nissan, adding another vehicle to the brand’s effort to build momentum in the North American market.
