The 2027 Honda Civic is getting a $300 price increase across its existing lineup, along with a new Sport-L trim and a hybrid driving feature borrowed from the Prelude. The updates arrive as Civic sales continue to grow in the United States, with Honda reporting higher sales in September 2026 and year-to-date gains.
American Honda sold 17,724 Civics in September 2026, an 8.4% increase from the 16,349 units sold in September 2025. Year-to-date Civic sales reached 195,135, up 5.4% from the same period last year.

What’s New for the 2027 Honda Civic?
The biggest addition is the Sport-L trim, available for both the Civic Sedan and Civic Hatchback. Positioned between the Sport and Sport Hybrid, the new model uses a 2.0-liter engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The Sport-L adds leather seats, heated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, a passenger seatback pocket, illuminated vanity mirrors and silver interior trim. Many of these features were previously limited to hybrid models or the range-topping Sport Touring Hybrid.
Both body styles continue to offer hybrid powertrains. The Civic Hybrid Sedan has a combined EPA fuel economy rating of 49 mpg, while the Civic Hybrid Hatchback is rated at 47 mpg.
Honda Sensing Safety Features Remain Standard
Honda is retaining its standard safety package across the 2027 Civic lineup. Every model comes with Honda Sensing, which includes collision mitigation braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning and road departure mitigation.
Sport models also include blind-spot information with rear cross-traffic alert.
Civic Sport Touring Hybrid Adds S+ Shift
Another major update for 2027 is the addition of Honda’s S+ Shift system to the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid. The technology debuted on the 2026 Prelude and is designed to simulate the feel of a performance transmission in a hybrid vehicle.
S+ Shift delivers simulated rev-matched downshifts, virtual gear holding and enhanced engine sounds. The system aims to give drivers a more engaging experience than the typically quiet operation associated with hybrid driving.
However, the Civic’s implementation differs from the Prelude’s version. Both systems follow the same concept, but the Civic’s S+ Shift does not alter the suspension. The Prelude’s system works with the chassis to deliver a more aggressive driving feel.
2027 Honda Civic Availability
The 2027 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback are beginning to arrive at dealerships across the United States. Buyers interested in the new Sport-L will have to wait longer, as Honda says the trim is expected to arrive by the end of 2026.
Honda continues to position the Civic as its entry-level car and notes that its average new-car price is lower than what many people pay for a used car elsewhere. Hybrids account for more than 30% of Civic sales this year, highlighting their growing share of the model’s sales mix.
With modest price increases, a new Sport-L trim and S+ Shift technology for the Sport Touring Hybrid, the 2027 Honda Civic lineup adds new equipment while retaining its existing hybrid options and standard safety features.
