McLaren is preparing to end production of the 750S by 2027, marking the close of a chapter defined by mid-engine V8 supercars. The British automaker is now taking final orders for the model, while its next-generation supercar is expected to feature some form of hybrid assistance as the company prepares for a broader shift in its lineup.

McLaren’s V8 Supercar Legacy Began With the M6GT

McLaren’s road-car history began with the M6GT, a model built around a bespoke chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine. Rather than using an engine developed in-house, the car featured a Bartz-tuned Chevrolet Small-Block V8 beneath its clamshell bodywork. Only three examples were built, establishing an early foundation for the brand’s road-car ambitions.

Decades later, the McLaren F1 became a record-setting supercar, with a top-speed record for naturally aspirated engines that is expected to remain difficult to beat.

McLaren introduced the MP4-12C in 2011, returning to the bespoke-chassis, mid-engine V8 formula used by the M6GT. This time, however, the car was powered by McLaren’s own engine.

Later renamed the 12C, the model was succeeded by the 650S in 2014. The 720S followed, eventually giving way to the current 750S. Each continued the mid-engine V8 layout associated with founder Bruce McLaren’s original vision.

McLaren 750S Production Will End by 2027

After years of developing its higher-tier supercars, McLaren is preparing to conclude the production era that began with the 12C. The automaker has announced that it is accepting final orders for the 750S, with production scheduled to wind down by 2027. The company has not specified an exact month for the end of production.

The 750S’s departure will mark a significant change for McLaren’s supercar lineup. Its successor is expected to receive some form of hybrid assistance, signaling a move away from the purely combustion-powered formula that has defined the company’s recent flagship models.

Although the next supercar is expected to be faster, the end of the 750S also marks another reduction in the number of non-hybrid performance cars available.

McLaren Updates Its Logo and Prepares New Models

As McLaren moves into its next phase, the company has also changed its logo. The new design references a logo used by the McLaren family for its fuel station in the past. The branding was also applied to the limited-run MCL 6GT throwback special.

Trademark applications have also suggested that McLaren could introduce new model names in the future, adding another element to its evolving brand identity.

McLaren Artura Could Also Leave the Lineup

The 750S is not the only McLaren model reportedly facing retirement. Earlier reports indicated that the entry-level Artura could also be dropped from the lineup.

The Artura is one of McLaren’s newer models and holds the distinction of being the brand’s first plug-in hybrid supercar. A successor is expected to feature electrification as well.

McLaren’s Roadmap Includes an 810-HP Supercar and SUV

McLaren has more ambitious plans beyond replacing its existing supercars. The company’s recently revealed roadmap includes an 810-horsepower supercar, which is likely to be the successor to the 750S.

Another notable development is McLaren’s reported interest in a 2+2 grand tourer that could compete with vehicles such as the Continental GT and the 12Cilindri.

The most significant announcement in the roadmap is the planned addition of an SUV. McLaren is investing a substantial amount of money in making the new vehicle a reality, representing a major expansion beyond its established supercar lineup.

With 750S production scheduled to end by 2027, McLaren is preparing for a new chapter that includes electrified performance models, a potential grand tourer and its first SUV, while bringing its long-running mid-engine V8 supercar formula toward its next evolution.
