The Jaguar Type 01 is ushering in a major transformation for the British luxury automaker, introducing a bold new design language, a new platform and an all-electric powertrain. But the sedan is only the beginning. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover has indicated that an SUV will be the next vehicle to adopt the brand’s new direction, with another model also planned for a different audience.
Jaguar Type 01 SUV Will Expand the Brand’s New Direction
The Type 01 represents a dramatic departure from Jaguar’s previous vehicles, which featured heavily sculpted designs. Its low-slung proportions and distinctive styling establish a new visual identity for the brand, but Jaguar intends to extend that approach beyond a single sedan.
During a media briefing at the Type 01’s press debut in England, Glover told the Australian publication Carsales that the sedan was designed with a specific purpose, while other vehicles in the lineup would offer greater practicality and appeal to different audiences.
“The Type 01 is very focused. It’s low-slung. It needed to look like nothing else… other [Jaguar] vehicles will offer more practicality; they will offer different things for different audiences. You can expect that in the portfolio,” Glover said.
An SUV would give Jaguar another way to apply its new styling language while offering a different type of vehicle from the Type 01. However, the company must also consider its relationship with Land Rover, its corporate sibling, when determining the size and positioning of future SUVs.
“So yeah, don’t expect us to have our version of the full-size Range Rover,” Glover said.
When Will Jaguar Reveal Its New SUV?
Jaguar’s next model could arrive relatively soon, although the company has not provided a specific unveiling date. Glover said the second vehicle would not be far away, indicating that its debut would take place after deliveries of the Type 01 begin.
Those deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-2027. The timing suggests that Jaguar’s next major product reveal will follow the start of the sedan’s customer deliveries, though an exact date has not been announced.
Glover also confirmed that a third vehicle featuring Jaguar’s new design language is in development. He indicated that the model would target another audience but did not disclose further details about its body style or specifications.
Jaguar Type 01 SUV Could Share the Sedan’s Electric Powertrain
Jaguar has not released mechanical specifications for the upcoming SUV. However, if the new model shares the Type 01’s platform, the sedan provides an indication of the electric technology that could feature in the expanded lineup.
The Type 01 uses three electric motors, with one at the front and two at the rear. Together, they produce 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque, enabling the four-door sedan to accelerate to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.
The sedan also features a 118-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with Jaguar estimating an EPA-rated driving range of 400 miles. Its 850-volt electrical architecture is designed to recover 200 miles of driving range in 13 minutes when connected to a 350-kilowatt charger.
For added charging convenience, the Type 01 has a charging port on each side of the vehicle, allowing owners to connect the car regardless of how they park.
Jaguar is also aiming to improve its previously poor reliability reputation as part of its broader transformation.
Inside the Type 01: Minimalist Design and Advanced Technology
The Type 01’s interior combines minimalist styling with a range of digital displays. Its cabin includes a 24-inch primary screen and a smaller monitor dedicated to heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls.
A separate display mounted on the dashboard shows images from the rear-facing camera. The system is necessary because the sedan does not have a conventional rear window.
The upcoming SUV will have different practical requirements from the low-slung Type 01, so its design and equipment may differ. Still, the shared platform could allow Jaguar to carry over elements of the sedan’s electric powertrain and minimalist interior approach.
A direct transfer of every design feature is not guaranteed, particularly given the SUV’s different body style and practical needs. The available information also does not suggest that the SUV will adopt the sedan’s unusual rear-window arrangement.
Jaguar’s Next Chapter Extends Beyond One Sedan
The Type 01 introduces Jaguar’s new design language, electric platform and powertrain, but the company’s plans extend to at least two additional vehicles. An SUV is expected to be the next model, followed by a third vehicle aimed at a different audience. Further details about their designs and specifications have not yet been disclosed.
