The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA is getting a complete redesign, expanded interior space and a choice of electric and hybrid powertrains ahead of its planned U.S. arrival in the second half of 2027. The third-generation subcompact crossover introduces updated exterior styling, an illuminated grille, a redesigned digital-focused cabin and an electric version offering up to 408 miles of WLTP range.

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new GLA in July, positioning its smallest crossover as an entry point into the brand’s lineup. The model has traditionally introduced buyers to Mercedes-Benz, with the goal of keeping them in the brand as their needs change and they eventually move to vehicles such as the GLC or GLE.

At this week’s Paris Motor Show, the new GLA was presented in person, offering a closer look at the changes Mercedes-Benz has made to its compact crossover.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLA Gets a New Exterior Design

The redesigned Mercedes-Benz GLA adopts styling cues from other new models in the brand’s lineup, including the GLC EQ. Its updated front end features a revised grille design and a new lighting signature, while an illuminated grille becomes a new addition to the subcompact crossover.

The new generation also has a longer wheelbase and wider track than its predecessor. These changes contribute to a sportier stance, while a range of personalization options will allow buyers to customize the vehicle’s appearance.

An exclusive Night Edition will be among the available choices, adding another option for customers seeking a distinctive version of the redesigned GLA.

Redesigned Rear Lights Give the GLA a Distinctive Look

The most pronounced exterior changes appear at the rear. The new GLA features completely redesigned taillights incorporating a Mercedes star motif, giving the rear end a different appearance from the outgoing model.

A new full-width lighting element connects the two taillight clusters, creating a continuous visual feature across the back of the vehicle.

Combined with the revised front grille, updated lighting signature and revised proportions, the rear redesign gives the third-generation GLA a substantially different appearance.

Electric and Hybrid Powertrains for the New Mercedes GLA

Mercedes-Benz will offer the new GLA with both electric and hybrid powertrains. The electric lineup includes the 268-horsepower GLA 250+ and a more powerful 349-hp GLA 350 EV.

The GLA 350 EV can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, providing a performance-focused option within the electric range.

The electric GLA is expected to deliver up to 408 miles of range under the WLTP testing cycle. Its range will likely be closer to 350 miles under EPA standards in the United States.

Charging Speed and Electric GLA Range

The new electric Mercedes-Benz GLA will support DC fast charging at rates of up to 320 kW. According to the stated figures, 10 minutes of charging can add approximately 168 miles of range under the WLTP cycle.

The combination of the reported range and fast-charging capability will be among the key specifications of the electric GLA. Actual range estimates for the U.S. market are expected to differ from the WLTP figure.

New Mercedes-Benz GLA Interior Features a Digital Dashboard

The redesigned cabin follows the layout introduced in other new Mercedes-Benz models. A tall, cliff-like dashboard is dominated by digital displays, giving the interior a more technology-focused appearance.

Buyers will be able to equip the GLA with the optional MBUX Superscreen, which combines three displays: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central touchscreen and a 14-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.

Physical controls have been reduced compared with the outgoing model. However, the redesigned steering wheel retains a tactile roller for volume adjustment and a rocker controller for the Distronic cruise control system.

More Passenger Space and Additional Cargo Storage

The new GLA offers increased seating space, with 0.3 inches of additional front legroom and up to 1.5 inches more legroom for rear passengers. Both front and rear occupants also gain nearly an inch of additional headroom compared with the previous generation.

The electric version adds a new front trunk, or frunk, providing another storage area. At the rear, the cargo compartment can be expanded by folding down the 40/20/40-split rear seats.

These changes give the redesigned crossover more passenger room while providing flexible storage options for everyday use.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLA U.S. Release Date and Pricing

The new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is scheduled to reach U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2027. Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced pricing for the redesigned model.

With updated styling, additional interior space, a redesigned digital dashboard and electric and hybrid powertrain options, the third-generation GLA represents a comprehensive overhaul of Mercedes-Benz’s smallest crossover ahead of its planned U.S. launch.
