Acura has outlined a broader North American product strategy that includes a rugged, adventure-focused SUV, a new eight-seat flagship positioned above the MDX, and a redesigned RDX featuring hybrid technology. The plans signal a major expansion for the luxury brand, which is preparing to enter new vehicle segments while adding electrified powertrains to its lineup.
The announcement follows the introduction of the NEXERA Vision concept, which offers a preview of Acura’s future design direction. The company has now provided more details about its upcoming vehicles, although several key specifications, launch dates and powertrain details remain undisclosed.
Acura Plans a Rugged SUV and a Larger Flagship
The most intriguing addition to Acura’s upcoming lineup is an adventure-oriented SUV designed to combine outdoor capability with premium styling, comfort and modern technology. The company has released only a teaser image showing a wheel equipped with an all-terrain tire kicking up dirt, suggesting a vehicle intended to handle more than paved roads.
Acura has not yet revealed whether the new model will deliver serious off-road capability or focus primarily on rugged styling. A possible connection to the Honda Passport TrailSport has been raised, but the company has not disclosed the vehicle’s underlying engineering or technical specifications.
Another major addition will be Acura’s largest vehicle to date: an eight-seat SUV positioned above the MDX. The new flagship is aimed at families seeking additional passenger space without giving up a luxury brand.
Rumors have suggested that the larger Acura SUV could share elements with Honda’s next-generation Pilot. However, Acura has neither confirmed nor denied that possibility and has not announced a launch date for the model.
2028 Acura RDX Will Introduce Two-Motor Hybrid Technology
The next-generation, fourth-generation Acura RDX is scheduled to arrive in 2028. The model will mark a significant milestone for the brand by becoming the first Acura vehicle to use its two-motor hybrid system.
The move places electrification at the center of Acura’s future product plans. Although the company has confirmed the hybrid configuration, it has not released additional performance figures or fuel-efficiency estimates for the upcoming RDX.
The redesigned crossover will join the rugged SUV and larger flagship as part of Acura’s broader effort to expand its offerings and introduce new powertrain technologies.
Acura Is Developing a V6 Hybrid for Its D-Segment Cars
Acura’s electrification plans extend beyond SUVs. The company is developing a new V6 hybrid powertrain for its D-segment vehicles, with the system expected to deliver more power, improved towing capability and greater efficiency.
Acura has not yet disclosed horsepower figures, fuel economy estimates or which specific models will receive the new V6 hybrid system.
The upcoming vehicles and powertrain additions will complement the existing Integra, ADX and MDX. Acura also plans substantial updates for the 2027 model year across all three nameplates.
Acura’s Expansion Follows Sales Growth in 2026
The expanded product strategy comes as Acura reports stronger sales. The brand’s sales are up 4.4% so far in 2026, while the MDX has recorded a 25% increase.
Acura’s plan is to build on that performance by entering additional vehicle segments and broadening its appeal to buyers with different needs. The combination of new SUVs, hybrid technology and updates to existing models represents the central direction of its North American strategy.
When Will Acura’s New SUVs Arrive?
The adventure-focused SUV is scheduled to lead Acura’s next wave of introductions in early 2028. The fourth-generation RDX is also confirmed for 2028, while the larger eight-seat flagship does not yet have an announced launch date.
With further details still to come, Acura’s roadmap points to a wider lineup that combines new vehicle categories, additional passenger capacity and hybrid powertrains while maintaining the brand’s focus on luxury.
