The 2027 BMW M760 brings a powerful V8 engine back to the German automaker’s flagship luxury sedan, adding a new performance-focused option to the recently updated 7 Series lineup. With 570 horsepower from a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the M760 surpasses the output of the previous 760i and becomes the most powerful combustion-powered version of the refreshed sedan revealed so far.
BMW unveiled the updated 2027 7 Series in April, showcasing revised styling and an entirely new dashboard alongside six-cylinder and all-electric variants. The newly revealed M760 adds an eight-cylinder gasoline option and delivers a more overtly sporty alternative for buyers seeking performance without giving up the flagship sedan’s luxury-focused character.
2027 BMW M760 Delivers 570 Horsepower
The 2027 BMW M760 produces 570 horsepower from its 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, exceeding the 536 horsepower offered by the previous 760i’s V8. The new model also carries a revised name, dropping the final “i” designation used by its predecessor.
Until the M760’s arrival, the most powerful version of the facelifted 7 Series was the all-electric i7 60 xDrive, which generates 536 horsepower. The new gasoline-powered model raises that figure while restoring a V8 option to BMW’s flagship sedan lineup.
BMW has not released the M760’s complete specifications. However, the sedan is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds.
For comparison, the previous-generation M760i used a 6.6-liter V12 engine producing 601 horsepower. Although the new M760 has a different engine configuration and less power than that earlier V12 model, it is expected to deliver similarly quick acceleration.
BMW M760 Gets Distinctive Styling and Sportier Details
The previous 760i was not marketed as an M model, making the new M760 a more explicitly performance-oriented addition to the 7 Series range. BMW had not released official photographs at the time of writing, but a reveal video from photographer Mike Danger offers a look at the sedan’s updated appearance.
The M760 features slightly different horizontal grille slats from those on the six-cylinder 740 and includes an M badge within the grille. These details distinguish the V8 model from its less powerful sibling.
As the flagship gasoline-powered 7 Series, the M760 is expected to include an extensive selection of luxury equipment. BMW may also have adjusted the suspension and steering to deliver sharper responses, although the company has not confirmed those changes.
Any performance-oriented tuning is expected to preserve the refinement and ride comfort associated with the 7 Series. Full technical details will be needed to establish exactly how the M760 differs from the six-cylinder 740 beyond its engine and styling.
2027 BMW M760 Price and Release Date
BMW has not confirmed pricing for the M760, but the sedan is expected to cost close to $130,000 when it goes on sale next year. That would put it in a similar price range to the all-electric BMW i7 60 xDrive, which starts at $124,700.
The anticipated price would position the M760 among premium luxury sedans with high-output engines and extensive equipment. Its final pricing and availability details remain unconfirmed.
How the BMW M760 Compares With Audi and Mercedes-Benz
The BMW M760 enters a segment where V8-powered luxury sedans have become less common. The current Audi S8 is expected to end production imminently, although the aging model remains available for 2027.
The Audi S8 produces 563 horsepower and starts at $130,000. While its design and technology are less modern than those of the new M760, the Audi retains a timeless appearance and an interior known for its craftsmanship.
Mercedes-Benz offers another alternative with the S580 4Matic sedan. Although it does not carry an AMG badge, its V8 engine produces 530 horsepower and enables a 0-to-60-mph sprint in 3.9 seconds.
The Mercedes-Benz S580 4Matic starts at $134,600 and comes equipped with a range of luxury features. Its traditional luxury-sedan character contrasts with the M760’s more performance-oriented positioning, which may appeal particularly to owners who prefer to drive themselves.
Alpina Is Also Preparing a V8-Powered 7 Series
BMW’s M760 will not be the only new V8-powered 7 Series variant on the horizon. Alpina has confirmed that its first new V8 model will be based on the 7 Series and is expected to arrive next year.
The Alpina version is expected to feature the brand’s craftsmanship and could deliver more power than the M760. However, detailed specifications have not yet been provided.
BMW’s V8 Returns to the Flagship Sedan Lineup
The 2027 BMW M760 expands the updated 7 Series lineup with a high-output gasoline engine alongside the six-cylinder and electric models. Its 570-horsepower V8, revised exterior details and expected performance-focused chassis tuning distinguish it from the other versions of BMW’s flagship sedan.
Although the electric i7 60 xDrive remains a powerful alternative, the M760 restores a large-capacity V8 to the lineup. BMW’s forthcoming full specifications and pricing announcement will clarify the final differences between the new model and the rest of the 7 Series range.
