Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa has ruled out selling Maserati, despite persistent rumors about the luxury brand’s future and its struggles to establish a stronger position in the luxury car market. Speaking at the Paris Auto Show, Filosa said the company was not considering a sale and promised to present a plan for Maserati in December in Modena, Italy, including new technology and a concept previewing a replacement for the discontinued Levante SUV.

Stellantis Rejects Rumors of a Maserati Sale

Stellantis oversees 14 brands, including Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Maserati in Italy, as well as Citroen, Peugeot and DS Automobiles in France. At the Paris Auto Show, Filosa rejected the idea of separating the group’s European and U.S. brands, emphasizing a strategy built around each marque “playing their unique role.”

However, Stellantis is facing challenges, and Maserati has become a focal point of questions about the group’s brand portfolio. Speculation about a potential sale has circulated for years, making questions about the luxury automaker’s future a recurring issue.

Despite introducing new models, Maserati has struggled to gain a meaningful foothold in the luxury market. Its position has not developed to a scale that would pose a significant concern for competitors such as BMW and Mercedes.

The brand’s move toward electrification and its decision to drop V8 engines have reportedly turned off existing customers. Meanwhile, concerns about reliability remain an obstacle in attracting new buyers.

Despite these difficulties, Filosa was unequivocal when asked about a potential sale, saying Stellantis was “not at all” considering selling Maserati.

Maserati’s December Plan Will Be Revealed in Modena

Maserati’s absence from the Paris Auto Show drew attention because the brand had said earlier this year that it would use the event to unveil a concept previewing its future direction. Instead, the brand did not appear at the show, while Stellantis’ more mainstream marques presented half a dozen concepts, including the Citroen 2 CV.

According to Auto Express, Filosa addressed the absence by confirming that Maserati’s plans would be presented in December in Modena.

“Maserati will be presented in December, in Modena,” Filosa said. “It won’t just be about slides, but a real plan that will secure the future for our beloved luxury brand.”

When pressed for more details, Filosa added that Maserati needed both new products and technology, which would be presented extensively at the December event.

“Maserati needs product, Maserati needs technology, and these will be extensively presented in Modena in December,” he said.

The presentation will include an initial look at a concept previewing a replacement for the discontinued Levante SUV. The Levante competed in the same segment as the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE and Porsche Cayenne.

Maserati’s Future Models Remain Unclear

While Filosa has promised a comprehensive plan, Maserati’s future product lineup remains a subject of discussion, with the company’s leadership outlining possible directions rather than confirming specific production models.

Maserati CEO Santo Ficili has discussed the potential return of the Quattroporte, suggesting that its future form could depart from the traditional sedan design.

“The story of the Quattroporte, in my mind, for the future is not a sedan. It can be something between a shooting brake and a crossover: a very low, big car to come back to this part of the segment,” Ficili said.

His comments describe a possible design direction but do not establish a firm timeline for an actual production vehicle.

Two Pillars Could Shape Maserati’s Product Strategy

Ficili has also outlined a potential structure for Maserati’s lineup, built around two main pillars, with the Grecale positioned between them to support the brand’s sales volume.

The first pillar would center on the GranTurismo family and include the MC20, GT2 Stradale, GranCabrio and GranTurismo. Ficili said Maserati was in a satisfactory position within this part of its lineup.

The second pillar would focus on the Levante and Quattroporte, with Ficili describing the Quattroporte as an SUV in this context. He said Maserati needed to return to this part of the market, while the Grecale would continue supporting the brand’s overall volume.

For now, Stellantis has ruled out selling Maserati, while Filosa has committed to presenting a plan for the luxury marque in Modena in December. The announcement is expected to outline the brand’s product and technology priorities, including a concept previewing a potential Levante replacement.
